1. Tata Steel is the first company in India to build a system to extract CO2 from blast furnace gas.
- On September 14, 2021, Tata Steel will open India’s first carbon capture plant, which would extract CO2 straight from blast furnace gas at its Jamshedpur Works.
- Tata Steel has become the country’s first steel manufacturer to use carbon capture technology as a result of this achievement.
2. The Niti Aayog has launched a scheme called Shoonya to encourage zero-pollution delivery vans.
- On September 15, 2021, the government think tank Niti Aayog, in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) in the United States and RMI India, will launch the Shoonya campaign, which will work with consumers and industry to promote zero-pollution delivery vehicles.
- The campaign will encourage the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in urban deliveries and raise consumer knowledge of the health, environmental, and economic benefits of EVs.
3. To decrease road accidents, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announces the ‘iRASTE’ AI-powered road safety project.
- Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport, unveiled ‘iRASTE,’ an Artificial Intelligence-powered project aimed at reducing road accidents, understanding the causes that cause them, and devising measures to mitigate them.
- Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering (iRASTE) is an acronym for Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering.
4. ‘Project Udaan’ from IIT Bombay is a language translator.
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has established ‘Project Udaan,’ a language translator, to overcome the language barrier in education, which obstructs communication.
- Project Udaan is a non-profit ecosystem that can translate scientific and technical literature from English to Hindi and other Indian languages.
5. In November 2021, India will host the first-ever Global Buddhist Conference.
- On November 19 and 20, 2021, India will hold the first-ever Global Buddhist Conference at the Nava Nalanda Mahavihara campus in Nalanda, Bihar.

6. South Korea successfully tested a ballistic missile launched from a submarine (SLBM)
- On September 15, 2021, South Korea successfully tested an indigenously manufactured submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).
- South Korea is the first country to create a missile system without nuclear weapons.
7. An Indian military contingent will take part in the SCO’s ‘Peaceful Mission’ 2021 in Russia.
- The Indian military contingent is participating in Exercise PEACEFUL MISSION -2021, a Joint Counter Terrorism Exercise amongst Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states, with an all-arms combined force of 200 troops.
- From September 13 to 25, 2021, Russia will host the Exercise PEACEFUL MISSION- 2021 in the Orenburg Region of South West Russia.

8. According to UNCTAD, India’s economy would grow by 7.2 percent in 2021.
- In its Trade and Development report released on September 15, 2021, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) estimated India’s economic growth rate as follows:
- 7.2 percent for the calendar year 2021
- 6.7 percent in the calendar year 2022
- In the calendar year 2020, India’s economy dropped by 7%.

9. Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from cricket in all formats.
- Lasith Malinga, a Sri Lankan fast bowler, has declared that he will retire from all forms of cricket on September 14, 2021.

10. President Ramnath Kovind presents 51 awardees with the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2020.

11. The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) of India has been awarded the UNESCO Literacy Prize 2021 for Innovation in Education.
- On the occasion of International Literacy Day 2021, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), a board of education under the Union Government of India, was awarded the renowned UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2021.
- NIOS received the prize for allowing the education of people with disabilities using technology-enabled inclusive learning resources, with a particular focus on content based on Indian Sign language.
