National
1. The government of C’garh has launched a scheme to pay 6,000 rupees per year to landless families.
- The state of Chhattisgarh has introduced the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Bhumihin Krishi Majdur Nyay Yojana, which would provide 6,000 rupees per year to landless families in the state.
- The scheme will be implemented in the financial year 2021-22, and a provision of Rs 200 crore has been included in the legislative assembly’s supplementary budget for 2021-22.
2. To strengthen the hospitality business, the Tourism Ministry signs an MOU with MakeMyTrip and Ibibo.
- In an effort to strengthen the hospitality and tourism business, the Ministry of Tourism has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MakeMyTrip (India) Private Limited and Ibibo Group Private Limited. It has already inked memorandums of understanding with Cleartrip, Yatra.com, and Ease my Trip.
- The main goal of this MoU is to give lodging units who have self-certified on SAATHI (System for Assessment, Awareness, and Training for the Hospitality Industry) on the OTA platform a lot of attention.
3. The Central Committee on Economic Affairs has approved Rs 77.45 crore for the revival of the North Eastern Agri-Marketing Corporation.
- A Rs 77.45 crore package for the rehabilitation of the state-run North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) (NERAMAC).
- The government stated in a statement that the entire revitalization package includes Rs 17 crore in fund-based support and Rs 60.45 crore in non-fund-based support.
4. The government hosts Aarogya Dhara 2.0 to commemorate the completion of 2 million treatments under the AB-PMJAY programme.
- On August 18, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare held an event called Aarogya Dhara-2.0 to commemorate the completion of 2 crore treatments under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
- Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, presided over the occasion.
5. Electronic Monitoring and Enforcement of Road Safety is notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
- Electronic Monitoring and Enforcement of Road Safety has been given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. In the Central Motor Vehicles (Seventeenth Amendment) Rules, 2021, this will be known as Rule 167A.
- The location of electronic enforcement devices (speed cameras, closed-circuit television cameras, speed guns, body worn cameras, dashboard cameras, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), weigh-in machines (WIM), and other similar technology) is detailed in these laws.
6. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announces the DISC 5.0 (Defense India Startup Challenge).

- DISC is a platform where the government, services, think tanks, industry, startups, and innovators can collaborate to help the defence and aerospace sectors reach their full potential by building a strong, modern, and well-equipped military as well as a defence industry that is equally capable and self-reliant.
7. The J&K Army hosts the 400-kilometer “JAZBAA-E-TIRANGA” Relay Marathon.
- The Indian Army recently held a 400-kilometer “JAZBAA-E-TIRANGA” Relay Marathon in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Major General Rajeev Puri, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Ace of Spades Division, flagged off and led the marathon.
8. Under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav,’ an all-women team from three military forces summits Mt Manirang in Himachal Pradesh.
- On August 15, 2021, a ‘All Women Tri-Services Mountaineering Team’ successfully scaled Mt Manirang (21,625 ft) in Himachal Pradesh and unfurled the national flag as part of commemorative festivities for the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, to mark the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence.
- The Indian Air Force flagged off the 15-member expedition team on August 1, 2021, from Air Force Station, New Delhi.
International News
9. India is ranked second in the world in terms of bitcoin usage.
- According to the Global Crypto Adoption Index released by blockchain research platform Chainalysis, India ranks second after Vietnam in terms of cryptocurrency adoption, but ahead of countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and China.
- Between June 2020 and July 2021, global crypto use increased by 880 percent, according to the research. Pakistan and Ukraine were ranked three and four, respectively, behind India.
10. The BRICS countries have agreed to cooperate in the exchange of remote sensing satellite data.
- According to the Indian Space Research Organisation, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) inked an agreement for remote sensing satellite data sharing cooperation (ISRO).
- The agreement allows for the creation of a virtual constellation of BRICS space agencies’ remote sensing satellites, with data being received by their respective ground stations, according to ISRO.

11. The RBI plans to implement a “PRISM” system to improve lender compliance.
- To improve compliance by supervised firms, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is implementing PRISM, a web-based end-to-end workflow automation system (SEs).
- This is intended to assist monitored organisations in strengthening their internal defences and resilience, as well as putting a greater emphasis on root cause analysis (RCA).
12. The World Bank has announced the creation of a new global cybersecurity fund.
- Under its broader Digital Development Partnership (DDP) umbrella programme, the World Bank announced a new Cybersecurity Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
- The fund intends to better define and implement the cybersecurity development agenda, ensuring that cybersecurity issues are more prominently reflected throughout World Bank programmes and financing.
13. The Reserve Bank of India has issued new criteria for bank lockers.
- For the purpose of locker allotment, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated banks to keep a branch-by-branch list of vacant lockers as well as a wait-list. This would ensure transparency in locker allotment. The revised instructions will take effect on January 1, 2022, according to the RBI.
- If lockers are not available for allotment, the banks must acknowledge receipt of all applications and issue consumers with a wait list number, according to the central bank.

14. India Ratings & Research (Ind Ra) has raised its GDP growth prediction for FY22 to 9.4%, citing a surprise faster recovery after the second wave of Covid, increased exports, and enough rains.
- The rating agency had previously predicted that the economy will grow by 9.1 percent if all adults are vaccinated by March 2022, and 9.6 percent if the government meets its goal of distributing vaccination doses by December.

15. Chandra Apurva Apurva Chandra, an IAS officer from Maharashtra’s Maharshtra Cadre, has been appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- His nomination was approved by the Cabinet Appointments Committee. Mr Chandra is currently employed as a Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
16. Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan’s first vice president, appoints himself interim president.
- Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan’s First Vice President, has arrived in the country as the “legitimate caretaker President.”
- In the event of the president’s absence, escape, or resignation, Saleh said the first vice president automatically becomes the caretaker president, citing provisions in the Afghan Constitution.

17. Major General Rajpal Punia writes ‘Operation Khukri,’ a book that tells the unsung narrative of the Indian Army’s valiant operation in Africa.
- A new book, named ‘Operation Khukri,’ has just been issued on one of the Indian Army’s most successful UN Peacekeeping missions, which took place in the Sierra Leone jungles in 2000.
- Major General Rajpal Punia, who led the Indian Peace Keeping Force in the West African country as a Major, wrote the book. Damini, his daughter, contributed as a co-author.
Obituary News
18. OM Nambiar, PT Usha’s coach, has died.
- O.M Nambiar, a renowned athletics coach who coached PT Usha, one of India’s greatest track and field athletes, died of an age-related disease. He was 89 years old at the time.
- During his time as a recognised coach, Nambiar has converted countless young talents into international athletes, including the great Usha, who missed a bronze medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics by one-hundredth of a second.
