1. For investor education and awareness, SEBI released the ‘Saathi’ mobile app.
- In Mumbai, Maharashtra, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) launched a smartphone app called “Saathi” that focuses on investor education.
- The Saathi app aims to raise investor awareness and provide education on the fundamentals of the securities market.
International News
2. The first BRICS Sherpas meeting in 2022 will be hosted by China.
- On January 18-19, 2022, the first BRICS Sherpas meeting of 2022 was conducted virtually, with participants praising India for its BRICS chairship in 2021.
- In 2022, China will assume the rotational presidency of the BRICS. BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and it is a grouping of five key emerging economies.
3. According to the ILO’s World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2022, global unemployment will reach 207 million in 2022.
- The International Labour Organization (ILO) published a research titled “World Employment and Social Outlook (WESO) Trends 2022,” which forecasts worldwide unemployment at 207 million in 2022, up from 186 million in 2019.
- The gradual economic recovery and the emergence of novel COVID-19 variants Delta and Omicron are to blame for this increase.

4. RIL paid $132 million for a 54 percent share in Addverb Technologies.
- For USD 132 million (Rs 983 crore), Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, the retail arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has bought a 54 percent ownership in Addverb Technologies Private Limited, a Noida-based robotics business.
- RIL has become a strategic partner of Addverb Technologies as a result of this investment. This is in keeping with RIL’s goal of automating its operations.
5. Digital payments increased by 39.6% in September 2021, according to the RBI’s Digital Payment Index.
- In September 2021, the Reserve Bank of India’s Digital Payment Index increased by 39.64 percent to 304.06, up from 217.74 the previous month.
- In March 2021, it was 270.59. The online transaction measure was 217.74 in September 2020. The index is published twice a year, in March and September.
6. Activision Blizzard, a video gaming firm, will be purchased by Microsoft for $68.7 billion.

7. The Universal Acceptance Steering Group has nominated Vijay Shekhar Sharma as an ambassador.
- Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder of Paytm, has been named as the Universal Acceptance Steering Group’s UA Ambassador.
- The Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) is an international organisation that develops and recommends standards for languages with scripts that are not currently utilised for internet access.
8. Dileep Sanghani was elected as the IFFCO’s 17th Chairman.
- Dileep Sanghani, a former Gujarat cabinet minister, was elected as the 17th Chairman of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) Limited by the board of directors.
- Since 2019, he has served as the Vice-Chairman of IFFCO. Following the death of incumbent Chairman Balvinder Singh Nakai, elections were held.
9. Kumar Chanchal appointed as NHIDCL’s new MD
- Chanchal Kumar has been named Managing Director of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) (MoRTH).
- He is given the title of Additional Secretary and is paid accordingly. He is a Bihar cadre IAS officer from the 1992 batch, and he is currently the Principal Secretary to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
10. Vikram Dev Dutt has been named the next Chief Executive Officer of Air India.
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Vikram Dev Dutt’s appointment as Chairman and Managing Director of Air India. Vikram Dev Dutt is a 1993-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.
- In the Ministry of Civil Aviation, he has been promoted to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary. Vikram Dev Dutt will follow Rajiv Bansal, the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, who also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Air India.

11. TCS has joined the ‘Toronto Waterfront Marathon’ as a new Title Sponsor and Technology Partner.
- Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) has agreed to become the new title sponsor and official technology consulting partner of the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Virtual Race through November 2026, as part of a collaboration deal with Canada Running Series.
- Through a new official race app, TCS and Canada Running Series (CRS) hope to modernise marathon running in Canada.
12. The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic was won by Indian-American golfer Akshay Bhatia.
- Akshay Bhatia, a young Indian golfer, won the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay on the Korn Ferry Tour.
- Since the Tour’s inception in 1990, he has became the third-youngest player to win a Korn Ferry Tour event.

13. Under Make-II, the Indian Army secured the first deal for Maneuverable Expendable Aerial Targets for Rs 96 crore with Anadron Systems Pvt Ltd.
- The Indian Army has inked its first deal under Make-II for Maneuverable Expendable Aerial Targets with Anadron Systems Pvt Ltd for Army Air Defence and the Indian Air Force.
- The contract, valued at Rs 96 crore, is Atmanirbhar Defence’s first with the private sector.

14. Ibrahim Keta, Mali’s former president, has died.
- Ibrahim Boubacar Keta, the former President of Mali, died yesterday at the age of 76.
- From 2013 until 2020, IBK was in power for seven years, until he was deposed by Special Forces Commander Assimi Goita. From 1994 to 2000, IBK served as Prime Minister of Mali.
15. Padma Shri awardee in the field of theatre Saoli Mitra has died.
- Saoli Mitra, a well-known theatre personality and the daughter of well-known actors Sombhu Mitra and Tripti Mitra, died in South Kolkata, West Bengal.
- Some of Mitra’s most notable solo performances are Draupadi in ‘Naathvati Anathbat,’ which she wrote and directed herself, and Sita in ‘SitaKatha,’ or Bitata Bitangcol.
