1. FM Nirmala Sitharaman has established the ‘Ubharte Sitaare Fund’ for export-oriented businesses and startups.
- In a ceremony in Lucknow, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the ambitious ‘Ubharte Sitaare Fund’ -USF for export-oriented enterprises and startups. The Fund’s goal is to raise cash for the promotion of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. Exim Bank and SIDBI established the fund.
- The minister stated on this occasion that this scheme will be effective in Uttar Pradesh because the state has the largest number of MSMEs.
2. Thiruvonam, Kerala’s biggest festival, is celebrated all over the world by Keralites.
- Thiruvonam, the most important day of the Onam festival, was celebrated by Keralites all over the world on August 21st. The festivities remained modest as Covid 19 cases showed no signs of abating.
- Kerala celebrated Onam for the second year in a row in the middle of a pandemic. The event generally provides a kaleidoscope of colours and flavours, but this year’s exuberance and grandeur were conspicuously absent.
3. In Andhra Pradesh, NTPC commissions the world’s largest floating solar PV project.
- On the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, NTPC Limited has commissioned the world’s largest floating solar PV project, with a capacity of 25 megawatts.
- This is also the first solar project to be built under the Government of India’s Flexibilisation Scheme, which was announced in 2018. According to the Power Ministry, this will not only help to light roughly 7,000 houses, but it will also ensure that at least 46 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide are not emitted each year over the project’s lifetime.

6. In India, Facebook has launched a lending programme for small enterprises in 200 locations.
- In cooperation with online lending platform Indifi, Facebook India unveiled a new programme called the “Small Business Loans Initiative” to allow small and medium businesses (SMBs) who advertise on Facebook obtain quick access to financing through independent lending partners.
- Facebook is launching this initiative in India for the first time. It is open to firms registered in any of India’s 200 towns and cities.

7. In India, Amazon Echo’s Alexa now has Amitabh Bachchan’s voice.
- Amazon announced actor Samuel L Jackson of Pulp Fiction fame as Alexa’s voice in late 2020 in the US and other Western regions, and now it’s bringing Amitabh Bachchan’s legendary deep baritone voice to smart speakers. The Amazon for Android app, in addition to Echo devices, would be able to respond to requests in Bachchan’s voice.
- Customers can ask Amazon Alexa to respond in Amitabh Bachchan’s voice to hear personal anecdotes, poems written by his father, tongue twisters, motivational phrases, and more.

8. The DIY Digital Repayment platform ‘Neo Collections’ has been launched by Kotak Mahindra Bank.

- In collaboration with Creditas Solutions, Kotak Mahindra Bank has introduced the Neo Collections platform.
