National
1. The Government of India has combined the eternal light of Amar Jawan Jyoti with the flame of the National War Memorial.
- On January 21, 2022, ahead of Republic Day, the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at Delhi’s India Gate will be fused with the flame at the adjacent National War Memorial. Air Marshal Balabadhra Radha Krishna, the Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff, presided over the ceremony.
- The decision to merge the two flames was made with the knowledge that the flame at Amar Jawan Jyoti pays tribute to the martyrs of 1971, but none of their names are present there, whereas the National War Memorial houses the names of all Indian martyrs from all wars, including 1971 and wars before and after it.
2. PM Modi started the ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav se Swarnim Bharat Ki Ore’ programme.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi used video conferencing to launch the ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav se Swarnim Bharat Ki Ore’ initiative. The nationwide programme includes seven year-long projects related to the Brahma Kumaris’ commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
- The Brahma Kumaris will run over 30 campaigns and over 15000 activities and events as part of these projects. The event is being organised by Brahma Kumaris to commemorate Pitashree Prajapita Brahma’s 53rd Ascension Anniversary as the Founding Father of Brahma Kumaris.
3. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 216-foot statue of Saint Ramanujacharya.
- On February 5, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate a 216-foot statue of Ramanujacharya in a sitting position in Hyderabad to commemorate the saint’s 1,000th birthday.
- Ramanujacharya was a revolutionary social reformer who lived in the 11th century. The ‘Statue of Equality’ will be the name of the statue. It is housed in a 45-acre campus in Shamshabad, Telangana, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
4. The 44th Kokborok Day was observed in Tripura.
- On the 19th of January, the Indian state of Tripura celebrates Kokborok Day, also known as Tripuri Language Day, with the goal of developing the Kokborok language. In 1979, Kokborok was recognised as the official language for the first time.
- The 44th Kokborok Day will be observed on January 19, 2022. The official language of Tripura is Kokborok, which is also known as Tripuri or Tiprakok. The state government of Tripura, India, designated Kokborok, along with Bengali and English, to be an official language in 1979.

4. Nusantara is the name given to Indonesia’s new capital, which will replace the sinking Jakarta.
- Indonesia will relocate its capital to East Kalimantan, a mineral-rich Indonesian province on Borneo’s island. Nusantara, which means “archipelago” in Javanese, will be the name of the new capital. It will be based in the North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara regions of Indonesia.
- The cost of the new project is expected to be over 466 trillion rupiah ($32 billion). The densely populated city of Jakarta, which has a population of 10 million people (30 million if you add the larger metropolitan region), has been grappling with an increasing problem of groundwater usage caused by home drilling as a result of large-scale city expansion.

5. According to a UNCTAD report, FDI flows to India will decrease by 26% in 2021.
- According to the Investment Trends Monitor released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), FDI flows to India declined by 26% in 2021 compared to 2020. FDI into India is expected to reach USD 64 billion in 2020. This was a 27% increase from the USD 51 billion in FDI in 2019.
- According to UNCTAD, India’s low FDI is due to the fact that significant cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A) agreements that occurred in 2020 were not repeated. From USD 929 billion in 2020, global FDI flows grew by 77% to an expected USD 1.65 trillion in 2021.

6. Sushmita Sen has been honoured by the International Association of Working Women.
- At the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) 2021, Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen received the International Association of Working Women Award. For her show ‘Aarya 2,’ the former Miss Universe received an award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television series.
- Ram Madhvani created the Aarya 2 series, which premiered on Disney+Hotstar on December 10, 2021.

7. Greta Thunberg is the name given to a new species of rainfrog by scientists.
- Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, has been given the name of a new species of rainfrog discovered in the Panama jungle. Pristimantis gretathunbergae, or the Greta Thunberg Rainfrog, is the scientific name for the species.
- The frog was discovered in 2012 and was initially assumed to be a member of the Pristimantis family, which has already been classified. According to the scholarly journal Zookeys, recent DNA analysis verified that the frog is a new species.
