1. In Lucknow, India’s first para-badminton academy was established.
- In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India’s first state-of-the-art, high-performance para-badminton academy with superior equipment and facilities has opened.
- The setup will increase India’s medal chances at the 2024 Paralympics, which will be held at the Stade de France stadium in Paris, France.
2. The first “District Good Governance Index” for 20 districts in India has been published.
- Union Amit Shah, India’s Home Minister, has announced India’s First District Good Governance Index, which covers 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir’s UT.
- Jammu, Doda, Samba, Pulwama, and Srinagar are the top five districts in the District Good Governance Index. J&K will be the country’s first Union Territory to receive a Good Governance Index.
3. A report titled ‘Banking on Electric Vehicles in India’ was produced by NITI Aayog and RMI India.
- A report titled ‘Banking on Electric Vehicles in India- A Blueprint for Inclusion of EVs in Priority Sector Lending Guidelines’ was released by NITI Aayog in conjunction with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and RMI India.
- It has advocated that the government incorporate Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) priority-sector lending (PSL) guidelines in order to increase retail lending for EVs and help road transport decarbonization.
4. PM Modi will dedicate the 216-foot ‘Statue of Equality’ of Ramanujacharya in Hyderabad.
- On February 5, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate a 216-foot statue of Ramanujacharya in a sitting position in Hyderabad to commemorate the saint’s 1,000th birthday.
- Ramanujacharya was a revolutionary social reformer who lived in the 11th century. ‘Statue of Equality’ will be the name of the statue.
International News
5. India and Sri Lanka have agreed to prolong their existing Science and Technology cooperation for another three years.
- The 5th Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation between India and Sri Lanka was held digitally. During the conference, India and Sri Lanka agreed to extend their existing S&T Cooperation Programme (POC) for another three years.
- Waste-water technology, biotech, sustainable agriculture, aerospace engineering, robotics, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and industrial collaborations will be the focus of this extension.
6. Through the Keppel Data Centre Fund II (KDCF II), a closed-end private equity vehicle managed by Alpha Investment Partners Limited, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a multilateral development bank, has committed USD 150 million to invest in the development of data centres that primarily serve emerging Asia.
- This will be AIIB’s first data centre project. India is one of AIIB’s founding members.

7. The ‘Platina Fixed Deposit’ scheme was launched by Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
- Ujjivan Small Finance Bank (SFB) has introduced the ‘Platina Fixed Deposit,’ which pays 15 basis points (bps) more than Ujjivan SFB’s usual term deposit rates.
- The Platina FD is a non-callable deposit that does not allow partial or premature withdrawal. While the interest can be paid monthly, quarterly, or at the end of the maturity period, it is not guaranteed.

8. The PMLA Adjudicating Authority has a new chairperson, Vinodanand Jha.
- Vinodanand Jha, a retired Internal Revenue Service officer from the 1983 batch, has been named head of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) Adjudicating Authority in New Delhi.
- Since September 2018, Jha has served as the Authority’s Member (Finance and Accounts). After retiring as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Pune, he was appointed to this position.

9. PV Sindhu won the women’s singles title in the Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament in 2022.
- PV Sindhu, an ace Indian shuttler, has won the Syed Modi International Tournament’s women’s singles title in Lucknow.
- Sindhu won her second Syed Modi title after defeating fellow Indian Malvika Bansod 21-13 21-16 in 2017.

10. Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2022 has been announced by Subhas Chandra Bose.
- The winners of the ‘Subhas Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar’ for the year 2022 have been announced by the government. During the ceremony, seven awards were given out in total.
- The award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 51 lakh and a certificate for an institution, and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a certificate for an individual.
11. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will receive the Netaji Award in 2022.
- Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been awarded the Netaji Award 2022 by the Kolkata-based Netaji Research Bureau.
- On behalf of Shinzo Abe, the prize was accepted by Yutaka Nakamura, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata. The Japanese Ambassador to India, Satoshi Suzuki, spoke on the programme from New Delhi

12. Subhas Bhowmick, a well-known footballer and coach, died recently.
- Subhas Bhowmick, a veteran Indian footballer and coach who won a bronze medal at the 1970 Asian Games for India, died at the age of 71 after a protracted illness.
- He played for two of Kolkata’s most prominent football clubs, East Bengal FC (Football Club) and Mohun Bagan AC (Athletic Club).

13. The International Day of Education is celebrated on January 24th.
- Every year on the 24th of January, the International Day of Education is observed around the world to honour the role of education in promoting global peace and development.
- The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on December 3rd 2018 to commemorate the role of education in development, and the first-ever International Day of Education was observed on January 24, 2019.
14. National Girl Child Day is celebrated on January 24th.
- Every year on January 24, India commemorates National Girl Child Day. The goal of the day is to draw attention to the disparities that girls suffer, to promote girls’ education, health, and nutrition, and to raise awareness about their rights.
- The day was initially observed in 2008 as a joint effort of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Indian government.
