1. The NITI Aayog and the World Resources Institute (WRI) have launched a conference for the decarbonization of the transportation industry.
- As part of the NDC-Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) initiative, NITI Aayog and the World Resources Institute (WRI) together established the ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’ in India.
- The project intends to reduce Asia’s peak level of GHG emissions (in line with a well below 2-degree route), resulting in issues such as traffic congestion and air pollution.
2. ‘Operation Devi Shakti’ is the name of India’s evacuation mission from Afghanistan.
- India’s difficult mission of removing its residents from war-torn Afghanistan has been dubbed “Operation Devi Shakti” by the Ministry of External Affairs.
- MEA Minister S Jaishankar revealed the new title of this challenging and hard mission through Twitter on August 24, 2021, in response to the arrival of a new group of 78 evacuees from Kabul to Delhi.
3. The Ministry of Education has released a brochure titled One-Year New Education Policy (NEP) – 2020 Achievement, as well as a number of additional projects.

4. The fifth round of the Indo-Kazakhstan joint training exercise will begin on August 30.
- The fifth edition of the Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise, KAZIND-21, will be held in Kazakhstan from August 30 to September 11 as part of military diplomacy and to reinforce the increasing strategic relationship with Kazakhstan.
- The exercise is a combined training exercise between both armies that would strengthen India-Kazakhstan relations.
5. Children in India and three other South Asian countries are at extreme risk from the effects of climate change: According to a new UNICEF assessment, India is one of four South Asian nations where children are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which jeopardise their health, education, and safety.
- The Children’s Climate Risk Index [CCRI] is UNICEF’s first child-focused report, titled “The Climate Crisis Is a Child Rights Crisis.” It assigns a ranking to countries based on children’s exposure to climate and environmental shocks such as cyclones and heat waves, as well as their vulnerability to those shocks based on their access to basic amenities.
6. Copenhagen is the safest city in the world, according to the Safe Cities Index 2021.
- The Economist Intelligence Unit has released its Safe Cities Index for 2021, which ranks 60 major worldwide cities based on 76 factors in the areas of digital, health, infrastructure, environmental, and personal security. With an overall score of 82.4 out of 100, Copenhagen is at the top of the rankings this year. Toronto and Singapore came in second and third, respectively.
- The cities of New Delhi and Mumbai have been included in the index. With a score of 56.1, New Delhi is ranked 48th, while Mumbai is ranked 50th with a score of 54.4.
7. HYBRIT, a Swedish business, has developed the world’s first fossil-free steel.
- HYBRIT, a Swedish steel company, has developed the world’s first ever “fossil-free” steel in a bid to minimise the steel industry’s worldwide carbon footprint, which now accounts for 8% of global emissions.
- SSAB (Swedish steelmaker), LKAB (Europe’s largest iron ore producer), and Vattenfall (one of Europe’s leading energy corporations) have formed HYBRIT.

8. In FY21, Nabard’s loans increased by 25.2 percent to Rs 6 trillion.
- NABARD’s total loans and advances given in 2020-21 increased by 25.2 percent year on year to Rs 6 lakh crore, with half of it going to production and investment, according to the bank’s annual report.
- According to the study, NABARD earned Rs 34,671.2 crore in revenue in 2020-21, a 6.1% rise over the previous year. In 2020-21, it made Rs 6,081.4 crore in profit before tax, up from Rs 5,234.3 crore the previous year.
