1. The Centre intends to construct an empowered committee of secretaries under the Cabinet Secretary to monitor PM GatiShakti’s implementation.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has resolved to establish an institutional structure to implement, support, and monitor PM GatiShakti’s full programme, which is a national master plan for’multi-modal connectivity.’
- The government will form an empowered group of secretaries (EGOS), a network planning group, and a technical support unit as part of this plan.
2. The Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2021 are published by the Central Government.
- On October 21, 2021, the Department of Telecom (DoT) published the Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2021, which alter the Indian Telegraph Right of Way Rules, 2016.
- The new laws were enacted to make it easier to get right-of-way (RoW) permits and processes for the installation and expansion of digital communications infrastructure across the country.
3. The Indian Navy has launched an Offshore Sailing Regatta that would run from Kochi to Goa.
- As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Indian Navy has organised an Offshore Sailing Regatta from Kochi to Goa, with the goal of boosting the spirit of adventure and ocean sailing among Navy personnel.
- Six Indian naval sailing vessels (INSVs), consisting of four 40-footers and two 56-footers, will compete in the event organised by the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA).
4. The UIDAI has announced the first-ever Aadhaar Hackathon, which will take place in 2021.
- From October 28 to October 31, 2021, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will host the Aadhaar Hackathon 2021 for young innovators.
- The hackathon is divided into two sections:
- Updates and Enrollment (innovative solutions to cover challenges being faced by the common man while updating their address)
5. Koozhangal, a Tamil drama film, is India’s official Oscar entry for 2022.
- Koozhangal (internationally translated as Pebbles) is a Tamil-language drama film that has been chosen as India’s official entry for the 94th Academy Awards (Oscars 2022).
- Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara produced the film, which was directed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS.
6. Deepika Padukone joins Adidas as a global brand ambassador.
- Deepika Padukone, a Bollywood actress, has been named as the worldwide ambassador for women’s sports by German sportswear giant Adidas.
- Deepika will be the global face of adidas for women.
7. The Indian Election Commission has launched the Garuda app for digital polling booth mapping.
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has developed the Garuda app for digital mapping of all polling locations, in order to ensure that election work is completed faster, smarter, transparently, and on schedule.
- Booth Level Officers (BLO) will use their registered cellphone numbers to upload photographs and location information of polling stations, as well as data such as the latitude and longitude of the centre, to the Garuda app.
International News
8. China launches the ‘Shijian-21’ satellite.
- On October 24, 2021, China successfully launched Shijian-21, a new satellite.
- The satellite will be used to test and verify technology for preventing space debris.
9. South Korea’s first homegrown space rocket, the “Nuri,” has successfully completed a flight test.
- South Korea’s first indigenously developed rocket, the “Korean Satellite Launch Vehicle II” or “Nuri,” was launched recently.
- The launch vehicle took off from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, which is located on an island some 500 kilometres south of Seoul.

10. CDAC Hyderabad and Union Bank of India have teamed up to produce a comprehensive cyber security awareness programme.
- Union Bank of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Hyderabad, under which CDAC would help the bank provide cyber security awareness and education to its customers and employees.
- The bank said in a statement that the MoU, which aims to raise security awareness levels and act as a guide to protect against cyber attacks, will also help the general public.
11. The Australian Small Finance Bank has launched a sound box for payment notifications.
- The AU Small Finance Bank has introduced a sound box that will provide merchant partners with quick voice-based payment warnings.
- The QR Code Sound Box aims to expand the bank’s digital payment reach.

12. The 2021 Denmark Open is won by Viktor Axelsen and Akane Yamaguchi.
- From October 19 to 24, 2021, the Victor Denmark Open badminton competition was place at the Odense Sports Park in Odense, Denmark.
13. In 2022, Nagaland will host the 56th National Cross Country Championship.
- On January 15, 2022, the South Asian Federation Cross Country Championships will be held in Kohima, Nagaland.
- Aside from that, the South Asian Federation Cross Country Championships will be held concurrently with the 56th National Cross Country Championships. Nagaland will be hosting its first-ever national athletics event.
14. Kishore Kumar Jena, a javelin thrower, wins his first national title.
- Kishore Kumar Jena of Odisha won the National Open Javelin Throw Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a best throw of 74.26 metres.
- With his attempt, the 26-year-old won his first national title, while Rajasthan’s Harish Kumar and Delhi’s seasoned Vipin Kasana grabbed silver and bronze, respectively.
