National
1. Karnataka is the first state to initiate a ‘Brain Health Initiative,’ which would train doctors in mental health care.
- K Sudhakar, Karnataka’s Minister of Medical Education and Health, virtually launched the Brain Health Initiative, a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, which is being carried out by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in collaboration with the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog).
- The goal of the effort is to assist people in coping with mental health concerns. Doctors will be trained in screening and treating mental health patients as part of this project.
2. South Maubuang was the first ODF plus village in Mizoram.
- South Maubuang in Mizoram’s Aizawl district’s Aibawk block has been designated as a model ODF Plus village.
- The community has met all of the criteria set forth in the SBM-G Phase II guidelines, and all households and institutions have working toilets and waste management procedures in place.
3. The government of Andhra Pradesh has approved the formation of 13 new districts.
- Andhra Pradesh’s state government has given its consent to raise the number of districts in the state from 13 to 26.
- By Telugu New Year in April 2022, the process of forming 13 new districts would be completed.

4. To enhance the start-up ecosystem, India and the UAE established a $150 million venture capital fund.
- Dr. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Startup Committee and HCL founder, inaugurated a $150 million India-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Venture Capital (VC) Fund from the India Pavilion at EXPO2020 Dubai, UAE.
- The VC intends to foster startup growth and investment in India and the UAE. It will be financed by investors from the United Arab Emirates, India, and GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries.
5. In Brand Finance 2022, Apple was named the most valuable brand in the world.
- According to the Brand Finance 2022 Global 500 report, Apple will continue to be the most valuable brand in 2022.
- In 2022, Apple’s brand value was estimated to be $355.1 billion, a 35 percent rise over the previous year. In the history of the Brand Finance Global 500 list, this is the highest brand value ever recorded.

6. Max Life has teamed up with Policybazaar to provide insurance for stay-at-home moms.
- Max Life Insurance Company Limited has joined with Policybazaar.com to offer its ‘Max Life Smart Secure Plus Plan’ as an independent Insurance cover to homemakers on the Policybazaar platform.
- In India, homemakers are now only permitted to purchase term insurance as an add-on to their earning spouse’s policy.
7. To increase cashless transactions, TerraPay teamed with NPCI International.
- TerraPay has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to enable Indian clients with an active UPI ID to receive real-time international payments into their bank accounts through TerraPay’s secure payments platform.
- It will make cross-border remittances more frictionless and convenient. The National Payments Corporation of India’s overseas arm is known as NIPL (NPCI).

8. 115 Police Medals for gallantry were awarded to J&K Police (PMG)
- Out of a total of 189 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) given this year, 115 were presented to the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
- They nearly doubled their previous year’s total of 52 PMGs. Several counter-insurgency actions carried out by the J&K Police in 2019-20 were recognised with prizes.
9. TX2 was given to Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve.
- The renowned TX2 award has been presented to Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in Erode district, Tamil Nadu, as its tiger population has doubled to 80 since 2010.
- Aside from the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, the Bardia National Park in Nepal took home the TX2 award this year for doubling the number of wild tigers.

10. Ruskin Bond has written a new book called “A Little Book of India: Celebrating 75 Years of Independence.”
- On January 26, 2022, Ruskin Bond’s new book “A Little Book of India: Celebrating 75 Years of Independence” was launched, honouring the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
- The book combines India’s “physical and spiritual” characteristics while also highlighting the country’s accomplishments over the last 75 years.
11. “India’s Women Unsung Heroes,” a visual comic book by Meenakashi Lekhi, was released.
- Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for Culture, has published a visual comic book titled “India’s Women Unsung Heroes” in New Delhi as a tribute to the country’s unsung women independence fighters.
- The book was published in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha. The book honours the lives of 75 unheralded Indian women liberation fighters, including Chakali Ilamma, Padmaja Naidu, and Durgabhai Deshmukh.

12. Padma Shri Charanjit Singh, a legendary hockey player, has died.
- Padma Shri Charanjit Singh, the captain of India’s gold-medal winning hockey team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, died at his home in the Himachal Pradesh district of Una.
- He was also a member of the Indian hockey team that won a silver medal in the 1960 Olympics in Rome, as well as the team that won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 1962.
