National
1. The Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has been successfully implemented for seven years.
- On August 28, 2021, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY)-National Mission for Financial Inclusion will celebrate its 7th anniversary.
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced the PMJDY on August 15, 2014, and it was officially inaugurated on August 28.
2. The government has introduced the “Bharat series (BH-series)” registration symbol to make car transfers easier.
- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has adopted the “Bharat series (BH-series)” as a new registration mark for new automobiles. When the owner of a vehicle displaying the BH-series mark moves from one state to another, the vehicle will not require the assignment of a new registration mark.
3. The NBF-PNBSA is recognised by the government as a self-regulatory body for the news media.
- NBF’s Professional News Broadcasters Standards Authority (‘PNBSA’) has been officially recognised by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- The News Broadcasters Federation’s (NBF) Professional News Broadcasters Standards Authority (‘PNBSA’) is a self-regulatory organisation for news media. The government has now formally recognised it.
4. To commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has launched an e-Photo Exhibition titled “Making of the Constitution” and a Virtual Film Poster Exhibition titled “Chitranjali@75.”
- On August 27, 2021, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of the North Eastern Region of India, jointly inaugurated an e-Photo exhibition titled “Making of the Constitution” and a Virtual Film Poster Exhibition titled “Chitranjali@75.”
- The event was held to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which was arranged by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
5. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Minorities, has launched India’s first Quantum Computer Simulator (QSim) toolset.
- On August 27, 2021, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), inaugurated India’s first indigenously created Quantum Computer Simulator (QSim) Toolkit.
- IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore, IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Roorkee, and C-DAC collaborated to create the first-of-its-kind QSim toolkit (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing).
6. Rajnath Singh has dubbed the Army Sports Institute in Pune “Neeraj Chopra Stadium.”
- Shri Rajnath Singh, the Raksha Mantri, visited the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune and renamed the facility “Neeraj Chopra Stadium.”
- In the sphere of sports, the Indian Army focuses on identifying and training promising athletes in 11 disciplines.
International News
7. The Genomic Surveillance Network is being established up by Indian scientists in collaboration with the BRICS countries.
- In partnership with the BRICS countries, the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Department of Biotechnology is undertaking the SARS-CoV-2 NGS-BRICS consortium and multicentric initiative to examine the impact of severe Covid-19 circumstances on TB patients.
- The SARS-CoV-2 NGS-BRICS consortium is a multidisciplinary effort to promote Covid-19 health-related knowledge and contribute to better health outcomes.
8. Smriti Irani delivers the keynote talk at the first-ever G20 ministerial summit on women’s empowerment.
- Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, spoke at the first ever G20 Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment, which was held in a hybrid format in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy.
- During the conference, India’s commitment to resolving gender and women’s concerns through mutual cooperation was stressed by the union minister.
9. Military exercises will be held by China, Pakistan, Thailand, and Mongolia.
- A senior official said that militaries from China, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Thailand will take part in a global peacekeeping exercise organised by the People’s Liberation Army in China’s central Henan province next month.
- From September 6 to 15, the four countries will take part in the first international peacekeeping live exercise “Shared Destiny-2021” at the PLA’s combined-arms tactical training base in Henan’s Queshan county.

10. Jana SFB has formed a partnership with two co-operative banks to provide digital payment services.
- Under the bank sponsorship scheme, Jana Small Finance Bank (Jana SFB) will give its digital infrastructure and payments services to HCBL Co-operative Bank and Mysore Merchants Co-operative Bank.
- The RBI has allowed CBS-enabled co-operative banks to issue ATM cards or ATM-cum debit cards to their customers in conjunction with the sponsor bank under the bank sponsorship programme.
11. IIM Ahmedabad and Bank of America have teamed to build a Centre for Digital Transformation (CDT). IIMA, a worldwide management institute, has joined with Bank of America to launch the CDT (CDT).
- By promoting cutting-edge research on digital transformation and innovation, the Centre hopes to become a lively information hub for academia, policymakers, and the commercial sector.
12. KBL FASTag has been launched by Karnataka Bank for seamless toll deduction.
- KBL FASTag was created by Karnataka Bank to facilitate seamless vehicle movement at toll plazas by providing automatic toll deduction.
- In collaboration with NPCI and Worldline, the FASTag processor, Karnataka Bank released its KBL FASTag, a pre-loaded payment instrument to promote seamless vehicle movement at toll plazas across India.

13. In India, Google has launched a children’s safety initiative.
- Google, in collaboration with comic book publisher Amar Chitra Katha, has created a programme to teach children about safe internet practises.
- The lessons, which aim to make the internet a safer place for kids, will be offered in eight Indian languages as part of the newly announced ‘Be Internet Awesome’ programme.

14. GM Sethuraman of India wins the Barcelona Open.
- In Barcelona, Indian Grandmaster SP Sethuraman won the Barcelona Open chess event, while compatriot Karthikeyan Murali finished third.
- After Daniil Yuffa of Russia tied with Sethuraman (Elo 2644) after nine rounds, Sethuraman (Elo 2644) was declared the victor on the basis of a stronger tie-break score.

16. Agriculture scientist BV Nimbkar, a Padma Shri awardee, has died.
- B.V. Nimbkar, a well-known agricultural scientist and recipient of the Padma Shri award, died at Phaltan in Maharashtra’s Satara district owing to age-related problems, according to family sources. He was 90 years old.
- Nimbkar founded the Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) in 1931 and worked in animal husbandry and agriculture research and development.
