1. The Cabinet has approved the DICGC Act, which guarantees depositors Rs 5 lakh in 90 days.
- In the event that a bank falls under the RBI’s moratorium, the Union Cabinet approved revisions to deposit insurance rules that will reimburse cash up to Rs 5 lakh to account holders within 90 days.
- Previously, account holders had to wait years for their deposits to be guaranteed against default if a distressed lender was liquidated or restructured.
2. To boost logistical efficiency and sustainability, the government has launched digital technologies.
- To improve ease of doing business, logistics efficiency, reduce logistics costs and encourage multimodality and sustainability, the government has launched the Secured Logistics Document Exchange (SLDE) and a Green House Gas Emission Calculator.
- The SLDE platform is a solution that uses a digitised, secure, and seamless document exchange system to replace the current manual process of logistics document generation, exchange, and compliance.
3. India will assume the chair of the United Nations Security Council in August 2021, with an emphasis on maritime security, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism.
- For the month of August 2021, India will preside over the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
- India will set the agenda for the month, coordinate crucial meetings, and deal with other related matters as the president of the highest UN body.

4. New Interchange Fee Rules from the RBI; Bulk Clearing Facility Open 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week
- The Reserve Bank of India’s new guidelines on increasing interchange fees and making bulk clearing available 24 hours a day, seven days a week took effect on August 1.
- The RBI increased the interchange fee for financial transactions from Rs 15 to Rs 17 in June, while it increased the fee for non-financial transactions from Rs 5 to Rs 6.
5. PM Modi introduces e-RUPI, a cashless and contactless digital payment system.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled e-RUPI, a digital payment system based on electronic vouchers.
- e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless digital payment system. A QR code or SMS string is used to distribute it to beneficiaries’ mobile phones.
6. The RBI grants GyanDhan an NBFC licence.
- GyanDhan, India’s first education finance platform, announced that it has been granted an NBFC licence by the Reserve Bank of India and plans to disburse Rs 650 crore in education loans in FY22.
- Domestic short-term courses offered by various ed-tech players and coaching institutes will receive Rs 50 crore.
7. To promote affordable green home finance, HDFC has partnered with IFC.
- HDFC Ltd has received a $250 million loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group’s investment arm, to be used for green housing by India’s largest housing finance firm.
- A green home is considered a high-end sector in the country, yet it provides environmental benefits. IFC claims that its relationship with HDFC will help shift market attitudes. Green affordable housing receives at least 25% of the funds.

8. July’s GST receipts set a new high of Rs 1.16 lakh crore.
- According to data issued by the finance ministry, the Goods and Services Tax collection for July increased to Rs 1,16,393 crore, after falling below Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time in eight months in June.
- The Central GST contributed Rs 22,197 crore to the total collection in July
9. The value of foreign exchange reserves has decreased by USD 1.581 billion to USD 611.149 billion.
- For the week ending July 23, the country’s foreign exchange reserves fell by USD 1.581 billion to USD 611.149 billion, according to RBI data.
- The reserves have risen by USD 835 million in the previous week ended July 16, 2021, to a lifetime high of USD 612.730 billion.
10. The CII has reached an agreement with the SII to accelerate the immunisation programme in collaboration with industry, including health care providers.
- The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has partnered with the Serum Institute of India (SII) to accelerate the vaccine campaign in collaboration with industry and health care professionals.
- To enhance vaccine coverage, the immunisation effort would target residents in the country’s small towns and rural areas.

11. Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, a navigation and direction specialist, has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Navy.
