1. Arunachal Pradesh’s Torgya Festival is held at Tawang Monastery.
- At Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh, the Monpa ethnic group of Arunachal Pradesh celebrates the three-day Torgya Festival.
- This year is the ‘Dungyur Torgya’ festival, which is notable because it is organised on a larger scale every third year under the name Dungyur Festival, during which the Dalai Lama bestows blessings (also known as Tse-Boom) on other lamas by sending Feb Jum, a holy item used in ceremonies.
2. IIT Dharwad has established a Global Center of Excellence in Affordable and Clean Energy.
- The IIT Dharwad in Karnataka has opened a Global Center of Excellence in Affordable and Clean Energy.
- Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation has donated to the centre as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme (HHSIF).
3. Tata Sky has changed its name to ‘Tata Play.’
- Tata Sky (established in 2006) has renamed itself ‘Tata Play’ and deleted the’sky’ brand name.

International News
4. The Jet, the world’s first hydrogen-powered flying boat, will be launched in Dubai.
- THE JET ZeroEmission has launched the world’s first hydrogen-powered flying boat, dubbed “THE JET,” in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
- THE JET will make its first flight during the COP28, which will be place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2023.
5. In 2021, Samsung eclipsed Intel as the world’s leading semiconductor company.
- According to a forecast provided by research firm Counterpoint Technology Market Research, South Korean electronics manufacturing giant Samsung Electronics has eclipsed US chipmaker Intel to become the world’s biggest chipmaker by revenue in 2021.
- Memory providers continued to lead the market, with SK Hynix and Micron holding third and fourth place, respectively, ahead of IC design vendors Qualcomm and NVIDIA. Revenue increased by 19 percent year over year.
Banking & Finance News
6. The Indian economy will decrease by 6.6 percent in 2020-21, according to the NSO’s first revised GDP forecasts for FY21.
- The First Revised Estimates of National Income, Consumption Expenditure, Savings, and Capital Formation for the financial year 2020-21 were released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
- According to the data, India’s economy contracted by 6.6 percent in 2020-21, compared to a previous forecast of 7.3 percent in May 2021. For 2020-21, the real GDP is estimated to be 135.58 lakh crores. For 2020-21, the nominal GDP is 198.01 lakh crores rupees.
7. The National Land Monetisation Corporation is being established by the Center.
- The government is forming the National Land Monetisation Corporation (NLMC) to handle land and other non-core assets monetization.
- NLMC would have an initial authorised share capital of 5000 crores and a subscribed share capital of 150 crores.
8. In FY22, banks would transfer 15 nonperforming assets (NPAs) worth Rs 50,000 crores to NARCL.
- National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) or bad bank, and IndiaDebt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL), according to SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara, are ready to start operations.
- A total of 38 non-performing assets (NPAs) worth Rs 82,845 crore have been identified for initial transfer to NARCL. In the current financial year, 15 stressed assets (i.e. Non-Performing Asset accounts) worth Rs 50,000 crore would be transferred to NARCL.
9. Vedanta has agreed to take over a syndicated facility of Rs. 8000 crores from Union Bank of India.
- Following discussions with lenders, Vedanta Ltd has agreed to a Rs 8,000 crore (replacement facility) with Union Bank of India at 7.75 percent to take over the majority of the syndicated facility.
- During the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, Vedanta Ltd secured a 10K crore syndicated facility with State Bank of India as the principal bank at a 10.5 percent operating fee.
10. In collaboration with Tata Power Solar Systems, SBI launched the ‘Surya Shakti Cell.’
- The State Bank of India has partnered with Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd. to fund solar energy projects in Mumbai’s Ballard Estate.
- With the goal of enhancing the present financing arrangement for solar power projects, SBI has developed a dedicated centralised processing cell called ‘Surya Shakti Cell.’
