National
1. The number of people enrolled in the Atal Pension Yojana has surpassed 3.30 crore.
- According to the government, overall enrolments under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) have surpassed 3.30 crore as of August 25, 2021. In the first five months of the current fiscal year, more than 28 lakh subscribers were enrolled in APY, according to the Ministry of Finance.
- According to the Ministry, over 78 percent of APY subscribers chose the one thousand rupee pension plan, while around 14 percent chose the five thousand rupee pension plan.
2. Drones will be used for afforestation in all 33 districts of Telangana as part of the ‘Hara Bhara’ project.
- The Telangana government has teamed up with Marut Drones, a Hyderabad-based drone technology business, to launch the ‘Hara Bhara’ drone-based afforestation project.
- This is a first-of-its-kind programme in which the state government will plant 50 lakh trees in forests across 12,000 hectares of land in each of Telangana’s 33 districts.
3. Bangladesh receives two mobile oxygen plants from the Indian Navy.
- The Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Savitri has provided two Mobile Oxygen Plants (MOP) to Bangladesh’s government to aid in the fight against the COVID 19 outbreak.
- Each MOP has the capability of producing 960 litres of oxygen per minute. The MOPS were developed and manufactured in India by the DRDO.
4. In Bangladesh, India has launched a soft skills training programme for female entrepreneurs.
- In Dhaka, the Indian High Commission, in collaboration with Bangladesh’s ICT Ministry, Women & E-commerce, and SilkOak Global Limited, inaugurated a year-long soft skills training programme.
- The training programme will assist Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs in developing communication and presentation abilities, as well as other soft skills that will aid their business endeavours.
5. August GST receipts totaled Rs 1.12 lakh crore.
- According to data given by the finance ministry, the Goods and Services Tax revenue for August dipped to Rs 1,12,020 crore from Rs 1.16 lakh crore in July.
- In August, the Central GST component brought in Rs 20,522 crore, while the State GST component brought in Rs 26,605 crore. The Cess was Rs 8,646 crore, with integrated GST collections of Rs 56,247 crore (including Rs 26,884 crore collected on imports of goods).
6. India makes a $100 million loan to Africa to help the continent recover from the pandemic.
- The Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank) has approved a US$100 million credit line for Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), the continent’s leading infrastructure solutions provider. The credit line will be used to develop critical infrastructure required for the recovery of Africa’s economies following the Covid-19 pandemic.
- The proceeds from the 10-year loan will help AFC continue its mission of bridging Africa’s infrastructure gap and driving the continent’s vitally needed sustainable economic growth.

7. India is hosting the eighth gathering of BIMSTEC agriculture experts.
- The 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts from the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries was held virtually in India. The day-long discussion was headed by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
- During the meeting, Dr. Mohapatra discussed the UN Food System Summit 2021 as well as the worldwide developments in agriculture and food systems.
8. Nigeria will launch the ‘eNaira’ digital currency in collaboration with Bitt Inc.
- Nigeria’s Central Bank said that Bitt Inc will be a technical partner in the country’s effort to develop its own cryptocurrency, the “eNaira.” Before the end of 2021, the eNaira is expected to be launched.
- After Nigeria banned banks and financial organisations from dealing with or aiding cryptocurrency transactions in February, the Central Bank revealed intentions to introduce its own digital currency later this year.

9. For mortgage guarantee-backed house loans, Clix Housing Finance collaborates with IMGC.
- The India Mortgage Guarantee Corporation (IMGC), India’s largest mortgage guarantee company, has announced a partnership with Clix Housing Finance Limited (Clix HFL) to offer innovative Mortgage Guarantee-backed home loan products in the affordable housing segment to salaried and non-salaried customers.
- Mortgage Guarantee backed house loans will expand Clix HFL’s home loan product and customer segment coverage, allowing the company to do more business while also helping the government of India’s primary mission of “Housing for All by 2022.”
10. BharatPe and Axis Bank have partnered to expand Axis Bank’s merchant acquiring operations.
- Axis Bank, a private sector lender, has partnered with BharatPe to develop its merchant acquiring business in India.
- Axis Bank will be the acquiring bank for BharatPe’s point of sale (PoS) service, BharatSwipe, and will take credit and debit cards for merchants affiliated with BharatPe as part of the collaboration.

11. Morgan Stanley maintains its 10.5 percent GDP growth forecast for India in FY22.
- Morgan Stanley kept its forecast for India’s GDP growth in FY2022 at 10.5 percent, compared to the broad consensus of 9.2 percent.
- From QE September, GDP growth is likely to move into positive territory on a two-year CAGR basis.

- Sanjeeb Chaudhuri has been appointed as part-time chairman of IDFC FIRST Bank Limited by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- He has worked in global banking and consumer companies for almost four decades as a top executive.

14. A neurosurgeon from Odisha is the first Indian to receive the prestigious AANS prize.
- Basant Kumar Misra, a neurosurgeon from Odisha, has been honoured by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons with the ‘International Lifetime Achievement Award in Neurosurgery’ (AANS). He is the first Indian to receive this distinction.
- The prize is a testament to India’s high-quality medical services in the field of neurosurgery.
15. Ramon Magsaysay honorees include a Bangladeshi vaccine scientist and a Pakistani microfinancier.
- A Bangladeshi vaccine researcher and a Pakistani microfinance pioneer were among the five beneficiaries of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, which is considered the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
- Apart from Bangladesh’s Dr Firdausi Qadri and Pakistan’s Muhammad Amjad Saqib, the other awardees include Filipino fisherman and community environmentalist Roberto Ballon, American humanitarian and refugee aid worker Steven Muncy, and Indonesia’s torchbearer for investigative journalism, Watchdoc.

16. Chandan Mitra, a former Rajya Sabha MP and editor, has died.
- Chandan Mitra, a journalist and former Rajya Sabha member, died. He was 65 years old at the time.
- From August 2003 to August 2009, Mitra served in the Rajya Sabha as a nominated member. In Madhya Pradesh, he was elected to the upper house by the BJP in June 2010. In 2016, his time came to an end. He was a close aide to party elder L K Advani, but the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah leadership chose to ignore him.
17. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a separatist leader, has died.
- Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Valley’s patriarch of separatist politics and a staunch Hurriyat hawk, died at his Srinagar home. He was 92 years old at the time.
- Since the 1990s, Geelani has been a member of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference. In 2003, he split from the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and formed his own faction, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
18. Sidharth Shukla, an actor, has died.
- Sidharth Shukla, a television actor and Bigg Boss 13 champion, died of a heart attack. He was 40 years old at the time.
- His mother and two sisters survive the model-turned-actor, who made his acting debut in the TV series ‘Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na.’
