National
1. In Gurugram, Haryana, India’s largest EV charging station was launched.
- The National Highway for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) has opened India’s largest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station, with 100 charge points for four-wheelers, in Sector 52 of Gurgaon, Haryana.
- Alektrify Private Limited is the company that installed and operates the station. The AC slow chargers account for 72 of the 100 points, while the DC fast chargers account for 24.
2. To make live proceedings more accessible, the Lok Sabha secretariat introduced the Digital Sansad App.
- The Lok Sabha secretariat has launched the Digital Sansad app, which will make it easier for citizens to follow the proceedings in the Parliament, including the live broadcast of the Union Budget 2022.
- It will also assist members of parliament in accessing services such as personal updates, such as the status of their notices, House bulletins, and so on.
3. The first India-Central Asia Summit will be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022.
- In a virtual format, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi convened the 1st India-Central Asia Summit 2022 with the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
- This summit, which was also the first of its kind between the two sides at the level of leaders, took place on the 30th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.
4. With technological assistance from Israel, India will transform 150 communities into “Villages of Excellence.”
- With technical aid from the Israeli government, the Center has decided to turn as many as 150 villages in 12 states into ‘Villages of Excellence.’
- The Israeli government has already built 29 Centers of Excellence (CoEs) throughout 12 different states.

5. India’s electronic goods exports increased by 49% to $11 billion from April to December 2021.
- In December 2021, India’s electronic goods exports totaled USD 1.67 billion. When compared to a December 2020 export of USD 1.25 billion, it increased by 33.99 percent.
- The electronic sector had a 49 percent increase in exports from April to December 2021, rising to USD 11.0 billion from USD 7.4 billion in 2020.
6. The ‘world’s largest’ canal lock was unveiled in the Netherlands.
- The world’s largest canal lock was inaugurated by Dutch King Willen-Alexander at Canal lock.
- The sluice, which is 500 metres long and 70 metres broad, replaces a smaller, approximately 100-year-old sluice in Ijmuiden. Ijmuiden is a tiny port city that connects the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam’s port.
7. According to the World Gold Council, global gold demand increased by 10% to 4,021 tonnes.
- Global gold demand grew 10% to 4,021.3 tonnes in 2021, according to the World Gold Council’s (WGC) report ‘Gold Demand Trends 2021.’ Overall gold demand in 2020 was 3,658.8 tonnes, which was impacted by the Covid-19-related interruptions.
- The demand for gold was mostly driven by central bank purchases in the fourth quarter of 2021, as well as a rebound in jewellery purchasing, primarily in India and China.

8. The first issue of $300 million Formosa bonds was listed on India’s stock exchange by SBI. INX State Bank of India (SBI) has issued $300 million in Formosa bonds, which are listed on the INX GIFT IFSC in India.
- The lender is the first Indian company to raise funds through a Formosa Bond, a Taiwanese bond.
9. As part of the India Digitization Fund, Google will spend $1 billion in Bharti Airtel.
- Bharti Airtel, an Indian telecom operator, has announced that Google will invest $1 billion in the company as part of its USD 10 billion India Digitization Fund.
- Google and Bharti Airtel have agreed to collaborate on a long-term, multi-year deal to help India’s digital ecosystem grow faster.
10. To invest and track markets, Paytm Money launched Intelligent Messenger ‘Pops.’
- Paytm Money, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the digital finance platform ‘Paytm,’ has introduced ‘Pop,’ India’s first intelligent messenger, to deliver real-time updates on users’ stock market investments.
- “Pop” puts all of their stock information, portfolio analysis, market news, and major market movements in one spot and makes it easily accessible to its users.

11. V Anantha Nageswaran has been named India’s new Chief Economic Advisor.
- India’s main economic adviser has been named Venkatraman Anantha Nageswaran, a scholar and former executive with Credit Suisse Group AG and Julius Baer Group.
- Nageswaran follows Krishnamurthy Subramanian, who completed his three-year stint in October and returned to academia.
12. IIFL Finance has selected Arun Kumar Purwar as its chairman.
- Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India With effect from April 1, 2022, Arun Kumar Purwar has been named as the new Chairman of IIFL Finance, a non-banking finance business (NBFC) sponsored by Fairfax and Capital Group.
- From 2002 until 2006, Arun Kumar Purwar was the Chairman of the SBI. During 2005-2006, he also served as Chairman of the Indian Bank Association (IBA).

13. In the Australian Open 2022, Ashleigh Barty became the first Australian women’s singles champion.
- Ashleigh Barty, an Australian tennis player, won the women’s singles title at the 2022 Australian Open. Danielle Collins of the United States was defeated by her.
- Barty broke a 44-year drought for Australian women at the Grand Slam in their own backyard. Since Chris O’Neil in 1978, Barty is the first Australian women’s singles champion.
14. In Muscat, Oman, India defeated China to win bronze in the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2022.
- India won a bronze medal in the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2022 in Muscat, Oman, after defeating China 2-0 in the third-place play-off.
- Sharmila Devi opened the scoring for India in the 13th minute of the game by converting a penalty corner. Gurjit Kaur scored India’s second goal of the night through another penalty corner in the 19th minute, giving the team a 2-0 lead.

- Veteran Anil Awachat, a Marathi author and social crusader, died after a protracted illness.
