1. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has formed a committee to review the existing criteria for the Journalist Welfare Scheme.
- The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting established a committee to assess the existing Journalist Welfare Scheme guidelines and provide recommendations for revisions.
- Ashok Kumar Tandon, a member of the Prasar Bharati Board of Directors, will lead the committee.
- The group will consist of nine members representing various print and electronic media, as well as a PIB Additional Director General. The committee’s Convener will be the Ministry’s Director (IP).
2. The Assam government has decided to remove “Rajiv Gandhi” from the name of Orang National Park.
- Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma government declared that the Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, the state’s oldest game reserve on the Brahmaputra’s north bank, will be renamed the Orang National Park.
- The news comes after the Centre removed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s name from consideration for the Khel Ratna award.
3. Gujarat will hold the 12th Defense Expo in Gandhinagar in 2022.
- Next year, the Gujarat government will organise the 12th Defense Expo-2022 in Gandhinagar. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani made the announcement after meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Kevadiya.
- According to official sources, the Department of Defense Production and the Gujarat Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard. This biannual event is projected to attract around 100 countries.
4. India and the United Kingdom have agreed to invest $1.2 billion in green projects and renewable energy.
- At the 11th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her British counterpart Rishi Sunak agreed to invest USD 1.2 billion in green projects and renewable energy to support India’s green growth ambitions, advancing the bilateral agenda of an Enhanced Trade Partnership.
5. To commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of ISKCON founder Srila Prabhupada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a special commemorative Rs 125 coin.
- To commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of ISKCON founder Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched a unique commemorative coin worth Rs 125 on September 1, 2021.
- Prabhupada established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the “Hare Krishna movement,” in July 1966.
6. The Snow Leopard and the Black Necked Crane have been designated as the state animals and birds of Ladakh.
- The snow leopard (Panther unica) has been designated as the new state mammal, and the black-necked crane (Grus nicricollis) has been designated as the new state bird in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
- On August 31, 2021, Shri Radha Krishna Mathur, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh, issued a notification in this regard.
7. LG J&K Manoj Sinha launches the ‘Saath’ project for women who work in SHGs.
- On September 1, 2021, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir launched the ‘Saath’ Rural Enterprises Acceleration Program for Self Help Group (SHG) women in Jammu and Kashmir.
- By mentoring women linked with SHGs and creating market links for items made by these women, the initiative strives to alter women’s life and make them independent and strong in social and financial areas.

8. In Berlin, the WHO and Germany have opened a Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence Hub.
- In Berlin, the World Health Organization launched a hub where information can be shared to help the world prepare for the next global health disaster.
- The Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence will collect data from around the world and share it with the rest of the world in a concerted effort to allow health officials to recognise disease trends as they occur and develop new analytic and modelling tools to use that data in developing strategies to combat outbreaks.
9. As the currency situation develops, Sri Lanka declares a food emergency.
- After a sharp drop in the value of the country’s currency triggered a jump in food costs, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa proclaimed an economic emergency to manage surging inflation.
- The government has chosen a former army general as commissioner of critical services, with the authority to seize and regulate food inventories held by dealers and retailers.
10. The Indian Army will take part in Russia’s Multilateral Exercise ZAPAD in 2021.
- The Indian Army will take part in ‘ZAPAD 2021,’ a two-week multi-nation military exercise in Nizhny, Russia, aimed at improving anti-terror cooperation.
- ZAPAD 2021 is a 13-day exercise that will take place from September 16 to September 16. Officials indicated that more than a dozen countries will participate in the ‘Zapad’ exercise, which will primarily focus on anti-terror operations.

11. Bangladesh has been accepted as a new member of the New Development Bank.

- In 2020, the NDB Board of Governors began negotiations to extend its membership. The United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, and Bangladesh have now been authorised as the organization’s first new members.
12. HDB Financial Services Ltd has partnered with EarlySalary to help accelerate the expansion of digital lending.
- To accelerate growth in Digital Lending, EarlySalary has partnered with HDB Financial Services Ltd (HDBFS), a leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC).
- The relationship between HDBFS and EarlySalary aims to gain traction in the impact categories of skill upgradation, education loans, and health-care financing.
13. Zerodha receives an in-principle approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to commence its mutual fund operation.
- Zerodha, India’s largest broking firm, has got preliminary authorisation to establish an asset management company (AMC).
- With this, the cheap brokerage joins the likes of Samco Securities and Bajaj Finserv in obtaining the approval of market regulator Sebi for a mutual fund (MF).
14. A five-member panel on NUE licences will be established by the RBI.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has formed a five-member committee to assess applications for new umbrella entity (NUE) licences and make suggestions.
- P Vasudevan, the RBI’s chief general manager, will chair the five-member committee. To compete with India’s National Payments Corporation, the New Umbrella Entities will build their own payment infrastructure (NPCI).

15. On a poor basis, India’s GDP grew by 20.1 percent in the June quarter.
- According to data issued by the government’s statistics office, India’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 20.1 percent in the April-June quarter of FY22, the best-ever fiscal-quarter figures.
- GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q1 2021-22 is anticipated to be 32.38 lakh crore, up from 26.95 lakh crore in Q1 2020-21, indicating a growth of 20.1 percent vs a decline of 24.4 percent,” according to MoSPI data.

16. JB Mohapatra is named Chairman of the CBDT by the government.
- JB Mohapatra, a former IRS officer, has been named chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
