1. Gurugram’s Aravalli Biodiversity Park has been designated as India’s first OECM site.
- On World Wetlands Day, the Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram, Haryana, was named India’s first OECM (Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures) site (February 2, 2022).
- The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) awards the OCEM designation to areas that are not protected but support a high level of biodiversity.
2. The government has approved the continuation of the National Sports Federation Assistance Program.
- The government has allocated a Rs. 1575 crore outlay for the 15th Finance Commission Cycle 2021-22 to 2025-26 to continue the Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs).
- The major Central Sector Scheme (CSS) that provides financial support to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is the Scheme of Assistance to NSFs. It is the primary source of finance for national teams’ preparation for all major national and international tournaments.
3. Maharashtra came out on top when it came to newly recognised businesses and unicorns.
- Maharashtra tops the list of newly recognised businesses and unicorns, according to the recently released Economic Survey 2021-22.
- In the current financial year, Maharashtra acknowledged 11,308 of the total 14,000 businesses that began operations. The state is home to 11 of the 44 unicorn enterprises.

4. Independence Co-operative Bank, situated in Maharashtra, had its licence revoked by the RBI.
- Independence Co-operative Bank Ltd’s licence in Nashik, Maharashtra, has been revoked by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- As a result, the bank will cease to conduct banking activity on February 3, 2022, at the close of business.
5. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has reformed its four-member High-Power Advisory Committee on Settlement Orders and Compounding of Offenses, which is chaired by Jai Narayan Patel.
- The group was previously chaired by Vijay C Daga, a retired judge from the Bombay High Court, and will now be chaired by Jai Narayan Patel, a former chief justice of the Calcutta High Court. The panel will operate in accordance with the SEBI (Settlement Proceedings) Regulations of 2018.
6. Edelweiss General Insurance has launched the world’s first AI-powered Voice Bot for automated automobile claim registration.
- Edelweiss General Insurance has introduced a speech bot powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the registration of vehicle claims. It runs on the Yellow.ai platform.
- The entire process from beginning to conclusion is referred to as the end-to-end process The AI Voice Bot service is the first of its type in India’s General Insurance market.
7. SBI and the Ministry of Culture have signed an agreement for the Atmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design.
- At the Red Fort in Delhi, the State Bank of India signed an MoU with the Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and the Ministry of Culture’s National Culture Fund (NCF) for the development of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design (ABCD).
- Aim: To increase the Economic Value Addition to GI products from India by highlighting, promoting, and celebrating products that bear the Geographical Indication indication.

8. Sonali Singh is the 26th Controller General of Accounts to be appointed.
- Following the retirement of Deepak Das, the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has been entrusted to Sonali Singh.
- With effect from 01.02.2022, Singh will serve as the head of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) organisation in the same capacity as Additional Controller General of Accounts, according to an office memorandum from the finance ministry.
9. Ravi Mittal has been appointed as the next Chairperson of India’s Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board.
- Ravi Mittal, the former Secretary of the Department of Sports, has been chosen as the new Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) for a five-year term or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.
- Since M S Sahoo’s retirement on September 30, 2021, Navrang Saini, a full-time member of IBBI, has been functioning as Chairperson (extra charge).

10. Mithali Raj is ranked second among hitters in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.
- Mithali Raj, India’s One-day International captain, has ascended to second place in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for hitters.
- Mithali has surpassed Lizelle Lee of South Africa, who is now third on the list with 731 points. Alyssa Healy (Australia) took top place in the standings.

11. The 5th Scorpene-class submarine ‘Vagir’ of the Indian Navy has begun its initial sea trials.
- The latest submarine of the Indian Navy INS On February 1, 2022, Vagir, the fifth of six French-designed Scorpene-class made-in-India submarines (Kalvari-class), began its first sea testing.
- The submarine was launched in November 2020 from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDLKanhoji )’s Angre Wet Basin in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
12. BDL and the Indian Army have agreed to supply Konkurs anti-tank missiles.
- The Indian Army has awarded Bharat Dynamics Ltd a contract worth 3,131.82 crores to produce and deliver Konkurs-M anti-tank missiles.
- The Indian Army will receive Konkurs anti-tank missiles from BDL, which will manufacture and deliver them. The Konkurs – M is a mechanised infantry anti-tank guided missile that is designed to destroy armoured vehicles with explosive reactive armour. It can be found at altitudes ranging from 75 to 4000 metres.

13. Ramesh Deo, a veteran actor and producer, died recently.
- A well-known film figure Ramesh Deo, who was noted for performing a variety of parts in Marathi and Hindi films, died of a heart attack at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.
- Over the course of his decades-long career, the multi-faceted film personality has appeared in over 450 Hindi and Marathi feature films, as well as numerous television shows and commercials.
