1. In March, DefExpo-2022 will be hosted in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- DefExpo, India’s major military exhibition, and the Defence Ministry’s land and naval systems show, is set to take place in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar from March 11 to 13 next year.
- The DefExpo-2022 show, which is held every two years by the Ministry of Defence, comes at a time when the government is focusing on increasing self-reliance in the defense manufacturing sector and projecting India as a military hardware exporter.
2. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has launched the ‘Har Hith’ shop scheme in Panchkula.
- Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister of Haryana, has launched the first-of-its-kind ‘Har Hith’ store scheme to promote the selling of high-quality daily-use products at affordable costs.
- In the first phase, 2,000 stores will open, 1,500 in rural areas and 500 in urban areas. In the first phase, the number of stores will be increased to 5,000.
3. The Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between IIST and TU Delft in the Netherlands for research purposes.
- The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and The Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Netherlands, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to carry out academic programmes and research activities.
- The Parties may exchange undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, and they will debate and agree on the areas of study and credits to be pursued under the programme.
4. India and the World Bank have agreed to invest $250 million in initiatives to improve the safety and resilience of existing dams.
- The World Bank has approved a USD 250 million project in India to develop a long-term dam safety programme as well as improve the safety and performance of existing dams in several states. The World Bank, the Government of India, the Central Water Commission, and government representatives from ten participating states signed the agreement.
- The Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP-2) will contribute to dam safety by developing dam safety rules, as well as bringing in worldwide experience and introducing novel technologies.
5. The Bhookamp Alert app from Uttarakhand is India’s first earthquake early warning system.
- The first-of-its-kind earthquake early warning mobile application, called ‘Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert,’ was released on August 4, 2021, by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
- The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee collaborated to create the Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert app.

6. In Italy, India’s lightest and Pune’s first metro trainsets were displayed.

7. The United States has approved the sale of $82 million worth of Harpoon Joint Common Test Sets to India.
- The United States has approved the sale of the Harpoon Joint Common Test Set (JCTS) and related equipment to India for an estimated $82 million, citing the move as helping to expand bilateral strategic ties and improve the security of a major defensive partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
- According to an official statement, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the needed certification notifying the US Congress of the potential sale.
8. Shehroze Kashif, a Pakistani climber, has become the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit Mt. K2.
- Shehroze Kashif, a 19-year-old Pakistani climber, has become the world’s youngest person to reach the top of K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
- Shehroze Kashif (Hails from Lahore) has scaled the 8,611-meter high summit using bottled oxygen.

9. The government and the World Bank have agreed to a $250 million loan to improve dam infrastructure.
- The government announced that it has signed a USD 250 million (about Rs 1,855 crore) credit agreement with the World Bank, which will be used to make the country’s existing dam infrastructure secure.
- The loan deal also includes the Central Water Commission and government representatives from ten participating states.
10. SBI General has partnered with SahiPay to expand both businesses in rural areas.
- SBI General Insurance and Manipal Business Solutions, the promoter of SahiPay, have formed cooperation to expand non-life insurance penetration in the rural market.
- SBI General said in a statement that as a result of the cooperation, SahiPay clients will have access to a variety of non-life insurance options.
11. After reports of difficulties, the RBI has extended the deadline for the new current account rules to October 31.
- Following allegations of small businesses being slapped with account suspensions in recent days, the Reserve Bank gave banks until October 31 to execute improvements on the current account front.
- The central bank stated that the circular is intended at ensuring credit discipline among borrowers as well as facilitating better monitoring by lenders, but it also stated that banks must use a graded approach when opening and operating current accounts and cash credit/overdraft CC/OD facilities.
12. The IMF has approved a $650 billion allotment of Special Drawing Rights.
- The International Monetary Fund has approved a $650 billion Special Drawing Rights transfer to help countries cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, the largest such disbursement in the institution’s history.
- SDRs are distributed according to member countries’ share limits. This indicates that a large portion of the reserve assets will be transferred to wealthier countries.
13. ADB would provide Rs 831 crore to Jharkhand to fund a water delivery project.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB), a multilateral financial institution, has approved a loan of about Rs 831 crore (USD 112 million) to construct water delivery facilities in Jharkhand.
- According to ADB, the project will include four towns in the state.

14. IFFCO and IIT Delhi have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation research in the fields of agriculture and nanotechnology.
- The Nano Biotechnology Research Centre (NBRC), the fertiliser cooperative Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) in Gujarat’s research and development unit, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, for research consultancy, knowledge transfer, and collaborative projects.
- The relationship focuses on concentrated cooperative research through sharing IIT Delhi and IFFCO laboratories and providing research consulting.

21. Padma Sachdev, a Dogri writer, has died.
- Padma Sachdev, the first modern lady poet of the Dogri language and a Padma Shri awardee, died in a Mumbai hospital. She was 81 years old at the time.
