National
1. The Finance Ministry distributes a monthly revenue deficit grant of Rs 9,871 crore to 17 states.
- The monthly Post Devolution Revenue Deficit (PDRD) Grant of 9,871 crore rupees has been released by the Ministry of Finance to 17 states. The PDRD award was released to the States for the 11th time.
- In the financial year 2021-22, the Fifteenth Finance Commission has recommended a total Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant of one lakh 18 thousand 452 crore rupees to 17 States. According to the Ministry, about one lakh eight thousand crore rupees has been distributed to qualified states thus far.
2. In Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicates the ‘Statue of Equality,’ which honours Bhakti Saint Ramanujacharya.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 216-foot-tall ‘Statue of Equality,’ honouring Sri Ramanujacharya, an 11th-century Bhakti saint who championed equality in all spheres of life, and hammering home the 11th-century Bhakti saint’s message of equality for all.
- The 216-foot tall Statue is built of ‘panchaloha,’ a five-metal alloy consisting of gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc, and is one of the world’s tallest metallic statues in the sitting position.
3. The Sports Ministry has allocated INR 2.54 crore to the ‘Deendayal Upadhyay Welfare Fund’ for athletes.
- Under the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons,’ the Sports Ministry has released financial support worth Rs 2.54 crore (2,54,03,910) for athletes and coaches from April 2020 to January 2022. (PDUNWFS).
- The system provides for the provision of appropriate financial aid to excellent athletes who are now impoverished, as well as medical care, sports equipment acquisition, and participation in national and international events.
4. The government has decided to extend the Rashtriya Yuva Sashaktikaran Karyakram scheme for another five years.
- The Central Government has agreed to extend the “Rashtriya Yuva Sashaktikaran Karyakram, RYSK” scheme for another five years, from 2021-22 to 2025-26, at a cost of about Rs. 2,710 crore.
- The decision was made in order to achieve the goals of developing the youth’s personality and leadership skills, as well as involving them in nation-building activities.
5. ‘Beating Retreat’ Drone Light Show ‘StartUps’ is honoured by Dr. Jitendra Singh.
- Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, has honoured the Beating Retreat Drone Light Show – StartUps, who enchanted the nation by lighting the sky with colourful tricolour at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi.
- According to Dr. Singh, the Department of Science and Technology is simplifying laws and procedures to allow innovative start-ups to get liberal funding.

6. The Securities and Exchange Commission (Sebi) has restructured its high-powered advisory group on settlement orders.
- Sebi, the capital markets regulator, has reorganised its four-member high-powered advisory council on settlement orders and offence compounding.
- The committee will now be led by Jai Narayan Patel, a former chief judge of the Calcutta High Court, according to a recent statement with the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
7. The jobless rate in India fell to 6.57 percent in January, the lowest since March 2021, according to the CMIE.
- According to CMIE, India’s jobless rate fell sharply to 6.57 percent in January, the lowest since March 2021, as the country steadily recovers with the lifting of restrictions following a drop in Omicron cases.
- According to figures from the independent think-tank Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, unemployment in urban India was 8.16 percent in January, while it was 5.84 percent in rural India (CMIE).

8. IndiGo selects co-founder and promoter Rahul Bhatia as Managing Director InterGlobe Aviation’s IndiGo has named co-founder and promoter Rahul Bhatia as the company’s managing director, effective immediately.

- He would be in charge of all areas of the airline as well as the management staff.
9. GA is a senior scientist. Srinivasa Murthy has been appointed as the director of the DRDL in Hyderabad.
- GA Srinivasa Murthy has been named head of DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad.
- He joined DRDL in 1987 and has made important contributions to several missile complex projects in the areas of structural dynamics, ground resonance testing, electrical integration, and checkout.
10. Jagadesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been appointed as Chairman of the University Grants Commission. The Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Jagadesh Kumar, has been appointed.
- Mr Kumar has been appointed to the position for a period of five years, or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.
11. The position of Controller General of Accounts has been assigned to Sonali Singh.
- After Dipak Dash’s retirement, the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has been handed over to Sonali Singh, Additional Controller General of Accounts.
- Singh, an Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer from the 1987 batch, joined the CGA as Additional Controller General of Accounts in October 2019. She had previously worked at the Central Vigilance Commission as an Additional Secretary.

12. Samayara Panwar and Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian Iran Junior International Victory
- At the Iran Junior International Series badminton competition, Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian and Samayara Panwar won the Under-19 boys’ and girls’ singles titles, respectively.
- In the boys’ singles final, top seed Subramanian defeated Ali Hayati of Iran 21-17 21-17, while Panwar defeated Ferdous Foroughi of Iran 21-14 21-15 in the girls’ singles final.

13. This year’s Republic Day parade tableau from Uttar Pradesh was voted the finest.
- Among the 12 states and territories that took part in the Republic Day parade in 2022, Uttar Pradesh was chosen as the best state tableau. The Uttar Pradesh tableau was themed “One District, One Product” and featured Kashi Vishwanath Dham. Karnataka took second prize for their tableau themed on the Cradle of Traditional Handicrafts. Meghalaya took third place for its tableau commemorating the state’s 50th anniversary of independence, as well as its tribute to women-led cooperative societies and Self Help Groups.
14. The Telugu short film ‘Street Student’ has been chosen as the winner of the NHRC’s seventh Short Film Award Competition.
- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) announced that a Telugu short film presenting the narrative of a street urchin with a strong message on the right to education won first place in a competition organised by the rights organisation.
- In the sixth Short Film Award Competition, Akula Sandeep’s film ‘Street Student’ was chosen for the top prize of Rs 2 lakh. It’s in Telugu with English subtitles

- J Sai Deepak’s book, ‘India, That is Bharat: Coloniality, Civilisation, and Constitution,’ was recently published.
- Bloomsbury India launched a trilogy book series. The first portion was released on August 15, 2021, and the second part will be released in June 2022. The third and final parts, on the other hand, will be issued in June 2023.

16. R C Debnath, a veteran CPI(M) leader and former Speaker of the Tripura Assembly, has died.
- Ramendra Chandra Debnath, a veteran CPI(M) leader and former Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, died of kidney failure in Kolkata. He was 66 years old at the time.
- Debnath is the current MLA for the assembly constituency of Yubarajnagar. He first won the seat in 1993 and went on to win it six more times.
17. Ramesh Deo, a veteran actor and producer, has died.
- Ramesh Deo, a veteran actor from Bollywood, died of a heart attack. He was 93 years old when he died.
- Deo acted in about 285 Hindi and 190 Marathi films. His notable hits include ‘Anand,’ ‘Sanjog,’ ‘Aapki Kasam,’ ‘Mere Apne,’ ‘Mr. India,’ ‘Khilona,’ ‘Jolly LLB,’ and ‘Hulchul.’
