1. On August 15, when he delivers his eighth consecutive Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite the whole Indian Olympic contingent to the Red Fort as special guests.
- At the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, India is represented by a 228-strong group, including over 120 athletes.
2. Uttarakhand releases India’s first earthquake early warning mobile app On August 4, 2021, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami unveiled India’s first earthquake early warning mobile app, dubbed “Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert.”
- The Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert app is India’s first earthquake early warning system, alerting people to earthquakes.
3. INS Khanjar is the first Indian Navy ship to dock in Gopalpur, Odisha’s historic coastal port.
- On August 01 – 02, 2021, the INS Khanjar paid a visit to Gopalpur port as part of the two-day Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of India’s independence and the 50th anniversary of the 1971 War.
4. BRO Builds World’s Highest Motorable Road in Ladakh at 19,300 Feet The Border Roads Organisation has built the world’s highest motorable road at Umlingla Pass in eastern Ladakh (BRO).
- At an elevation of 19,300 feet, the 52-kilometer tarmac road at Umlingla Pass was built.
5. India’s nuclear power generation capacity is planned to increase to 22,480 MW by 2031, up from 6,780 MW with 22 reactors currently.
- According to the central government, a new atomic power plant with a capacity of 700 megawatts (Unit 3 of the Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP), Gujarat) was connected to the grid in January of this year.
6. In a move to boost the execution of development projects in Assam, the State Government, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Guwahati.
- According to the MoU, 13 thousand 200 crore rupees will be utilised for infrastructure development in rural and semi-urban areas across the state through NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance (NIDA) and Rural Infrastructure Assistance to State Government (RIAS).
7. The Centre has disbursed Rs 1253 crore to support the UDAN plan. To date, the Centre has disbursed Rs 1253 crore from the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCF) levy and Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the collected Rs 10004 crore.
- On planned domestic flights, the government receives a fee of 5,000 rupees per flight, according to Dr. VK Singh. Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) routes and aircraft with fewer than 80 seats are excluded from the charge.
8. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has announced the “Delhi@2047” programme, which intends to foster collaborations with the commercial sector, CSR efforts, and philanthropic organisations in order to make the capital a global city by 2047.

9. The G20 Culture Ministers Meeting was held in Rome, Italy for the first time. This was a huge two-day event held during Italy’s presidency of the G20. In Rome, the G20 Summit was held at the Colosseum and the Palazzo Barberini.
- Smt. India was represented in the G20 Culture Ministers Meeting by Meenakashi Lekhi, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture. She emphasised the numerous initiatives made by India to boost the culture and creative industries, such as the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s One District One Product scheme, tourism circuits, and the promotion of Yoga and Ayurveda, among others.
10. In July this year, India became an Associate Observer of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), according to Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs.
- This creates a fresh foundation for India’s traditional affinity with the Lusophone countries, as well as cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
11. Shehroz Kashif, a 19-year-old Pakistani climber, has become the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
- On July 27, 2021, he achieved the accomplishment of reaching the 8,611-meter high peak using bottled oxygen.

12. Suryoday Small Finance Bank (SSFB) has launched a ‘Suryoday Health and Wellness Savings Account’ to help consumers grow their wealth while also taking care of their family’s health in the face of the covid-19 pandemic.
- The account has a competitive interest rate and three primary features for a family of four: a top-up health insurance policy worth Rs. 25 lakh, an annual healthcare package, and on-call emergency ambulance medical care.
13. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) have teamed up to provide consumers the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) AUTOPAY option.
- Customers will be able to purchase insurance plans and pay premiums from the safety and convenience of their own homes.
14. Bank of Baroda signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh government Bank of Baroda (BoB) signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the AP State Civil Supplies Corporation and the BC/SC/ST and Minorities corporations to finance 9,260 mini trucks to the beneficiaries chosen by the respective welfare corporations.
- The vehicle will cost Rs 6 lakh in total, with a 10% recipient contribution and the balance 90% sponsored by Bank of Baroda.

17. Iran’s new President, Ebrahim Raisi, has been sworn in.
- On August 5, 2021, Ebrahim Raisi was sworn in as the new president of Iran.

18. Rizwan breaks the world record for most T20I runs scored in a year.
- Mohammad Rizwan, a wicketkeeper-batsman from Pakistan, has broken Paul Stirling’s record for most runs scored in T20 internationals in a single calendar year.
- With his 46-run performance against the West Indies, the right-handed opener has now scored 752 runs in 15 matches (14 innings) in 2021, averaging 94.00 and striking at 140.03.
