1. India is set to become the first Asian country to sign a plastics treaty.
- India has become the first Asian country to establish a plastics pact, establishing a ground-breaking new initiative to bring together prominent enterprises at a national level to make pledges toward the development of a circular plastics system.

- The 28th Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise SIMBEX, which lasted three days, came to an end.

4. Sai Life Sciences joins the United Nations Global Impact Network as a signatory.
- Sai Life Sciences, a major global Contract Research, Development, and Manufacturing Organization (CRO/ CDMO), has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest sustainability effort, as a signatory.
- Sai Life Sciences has pledged to accept the UNGC’s Ten Principles on human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption as a signatory, reaffirming the company’s commitment to corporate responsibility and sustainability.

6. Suman Sharma has been named as the next Managing Director of SECI by the government.
- Suman Sharma has been chosen as the managing director (MD) of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) by the government, according to the renewable energy ministry.
- Sharma is a 1990 batch Indian Revenue Service officer. She will succeed Jatindra Nath Swain, who is now the company’s chairman and CEO.
7. Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s Prime Minister, is stepping down.
- Yoshihide Suga, the Japanese Prime Minister, will resign as a result of mounting public outrage over his government’s handling of COVID-19.
- Suga took over as Prime Minister a year ago, after Shinzo Abe, Japan’s long-serving Prime Minister, stepped down due to health concerns.

8. Max Verstappen is the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix winner.
- The Formula One Dutch Grand Prix 2021 was won by Max Verstappen. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes-Finland) finished third, while Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) finished second.
- The Red Bull driver’s eighth win of the season and 17th overall put him three points ahead of the defending champion, who finished second but received a bonus point for fastest lap.
9. At the Tokyo Paralympics, Krishna Nagar won gold and Suhas L Yathiraj takes silver in badminton.
- In the final of the men’s singles badminton (SH6) event, India’s Krishna Nagar defeated Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai. India has won five gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
- Apart from that, India’s para-shuttler Suhas L Yathiraj earned a silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics’ men’s singles SL4 division (badminton). In the final, he was defeated by Lucas Mazur (France) 21-15, 17-21, 15-21.
10. India wins a record 19 medals at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
- India finished with an all-time high 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, with five gold, eight silver, and six bronze. This is India’s best medal tally in a single Paralympic Games edition.
- Out of a total of 162 countries, India is ranked 24th in overall medal tally.

15. Keshav Desiraju, the former Union Health Secretary, has died.
- Former Union Health Secretary and grandson of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Keshav Desiraju, passed away. He was 66 years old at the time.
- Desiraju remained active in public health issues after retiring, focusing on mental health, primary health care, and community health. He is the author of several works, including a biography of the great singer MS Subbulakshmi.
