National
1. In Thiruvananthapuram, India’s first heart failure biobank was unveiled. The National Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Heart Failure (CARE-HF) at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has established India’s first heart failure biobank.
- Biospecimens such as blood, serum, tissue samples obtained during open-heart surgery, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and genomic DNA collected from heart failure patients will be stored in the HF (Heart Failure) Biobank for research purposes.
2. Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, and Chairman of DRDO, launched the second Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Conference on Range Technology (ICORT-2021) via videoconferencing on August 5, 2021.
- The meeting was hosted by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur, a Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) laboratory (DRDO).
3. To speed up the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Centre has released Rs 2400 crore to Uttar Pradesh.
- The Centre has granted Rs 2,000 crore to Uttar Pradesh in order to speed up the execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state.
- Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Minister of Jal Shakti, has promised the State his entire support in ensuring that tap water is available in every rural home by 2024.
4. Karnataka becomes the first state to release an order to execute the New Education Policy 2020 beginning with the present academic year.
- The Karnataka government has issued an order to adopt the National Education Policy beginning with the current academic year 2021-22. Karnataka has been the first state in the country to issue an order to execute the new Education policy, according to Higher Education Minister Dr. CN Ashwatha Narayana.
- The National Education Policy, which intends to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio in Higher Education from 26.8% in 2018 to 50% by 2035, will result in significant educational reforms.
5. Health Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters following a meeting that the Meghalaya government will provide free treatment to COVID-19 patients under the “Out of Pocket Treatment” scheme.
- After MHIS proposed that COVID patients be included in the scheme, the decision was made. Previously, the MHIS reimbursed 60% of the cost of COVID treatment, but now it covers full expenses in five areas.

7. Himachal Pradesh State Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation has signed an agreement with Flipkart to sell its products online.
- The Himachal Pradesh State Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with online retailer Flipkart to sell and promote local artists’ and craftsmen’s items to customers all over the world.
- The agreement between the two countries is a significant step toward promoting the rural economy and increasing sales of the state’s handicraft and handloom items.

- Dr. Dhriti Banerjee has been named the first woman to lead the Indian Zoological Survey (ZSI).

9. Ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal in men’s freestyle 65kg wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics on August 07, 2021, defeating Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0.
- This is India’s sixth medal at the current Games, and the country’s fourth bronze.
10. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra wins gold in the men’s javelin throw.
- On August 7, 2021, India’s great javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won a historic gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
- In his second attempt, Neeraj Chopra threw 87.58 metres to win the yellow medal.
11. India takes home seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics.
- New competitions, such as 3-point basketball, freestyle BMX, and Madison cycling, as well as more mixed events, were added to the Olympics in 2021. Karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding all had their Olympic debuts at these Games, as did baseball and softball, which returned for the first time since 2008.
- Around 11,000 competitors representing 206 countries competed in 33 sports at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. Miratoiwa is the mascot for the Tokyo Olympics. The Tokyo Olympics 2021 medals will be manufactured from recycled electronics. Recycled electronics from all throughout Japan were used to create 5,000 gold, silver, and bronze medals.

13. Babulal Jain, a senior BJP leader and former Member of Parliament, has died.
- Babulal Jain, a senior BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister, died at a private hospital in Ujjain after a protracted illness. He was 88 years old when he died.
- The four-time MLA was elected to the state Assembly for the first time in 1977 from the Ujjain North seat, and then three times from the Mahidpur Assembly sector.
