1. To make up for the GST compensation gap, the Finance Ministry has released Rs 40,000 crore to states and union territories.
- To cover the shortfall in GST Compensation, the Finance Ministry provided 40,000 crore rupees to the States and UTs with Legislature under the back-to-back loan facility.
- Earlier this year, on July 15th, 75,000 crore rupees was released to states and union territories having legislature. With this payment, the total amount granted as back-to-back loans in lieu of GST compensation in the current financial year has reached 1 lakh 15 thousand crore rupees.
2. Maharashtra starts ‘Mission Kavach Kundal,’ a daily vaccination campaign for 15 lakh people.
- The Maharashtra government began a special seven-day COVID-19 inoculation drive called Mission Kavach-Kundal with an objective of vaccinating 15 lakh people every day as part of the Central Government’s goal of achieving 100 crore vaccinations by the 15th of October.
- According to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, 65% of the state’s vaccine-eligible population received the first dose, while 30% received both doses.
3. Regional Ayurveda Research Institute signs MoU with Sikkim Manipal University The Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) and Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct collaborative research and promote research activities in mutually identified areas.
- The MoU intends to strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between the two institutions in order to recognise their respective strengths in research and education in one or more science, medical, and allied health sciences areas.
4. The Ministry of Textiles has given its approval for the Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme to continue.
- The Ministry of Textiles has sanctioned a total investment of 160 crore for the Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS). The programme will now run through March 2026.
- Handicraft artisans will benefit from infrastructural support, market access, design, and technology upgrades under the initiative.

5. India joins a high-profile coalition defending the environment and people.
- India has joined the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, a coalition of over 70 countries advocating for the adoption of the global target of protecting 30 percent of the planet by 2030.
- Members of the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People include countries from the global north and south, including European, Latin American, African, and Asian countries.

6. The RBI retains the repo rate at 4% and the reverse repo rate at 3.35 percent.
- The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) held the repo rate at 4% and the reverse repo rate at 3.35 percent. The Monetary Policy Committee MPC, led by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, has kept the status quo for the eighth time in a row.
- With this announcement, the RBI made some developmental and regulatory decisions that will affect the country’s digital transactions and NBFC consumer interface.
7. The World Bank has approved a $40 million project in Meghalaya to boost healthcare services.
- The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a USD 40 million initiative targeted at increasing the quality of Meghalaya’s health services and strengthening the state’s capacity to deal with future health catastrophes, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The loan, which will be approved by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), will be for 14.5 years, with a 5-year grace period.
8. BharatPe launches ‘buy now, pay later’ platform – postpe With the launch of ‘postpe,’ the fintech startup BharatPe announced its debut into the ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ (BNPL) market.
- Customers can use credit on the new platform to buy now and pay later from any location. Customers who use the postpe platform can download the app from the Play Store and get up to Rs 10 lakh in interest-free credit.

9. Emmvee and the Karnataka government have signed an agreement to build a 3 GW manufacturing facility in Dobaspet.
- Emmvee, a Bangalore-based solar module maker, has inked an MoU with the Karnataka government to build a solar module and cell manufacturing factory worth Rs 825 crore in the state.
- The factory, which will be built in Dobaspet, Karnataka, will be an extension to the manufacturer’s current 0.5 GW solar module production plant in the state’s Bengaluru region. 736 local adolescents are projected to be employed by the plant.

10. Wendy Werner has been appointed as the IFC’s India Country Head.
- Wendy Werner has been named the new country head for India by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank subsidiary.
- Werner took over for Jun Zhang, who had recently retired from the Washington-based private-sector lender after a long career.
11. The Chairman of the Paradip Port Trust is PL Haranadh.
- P L Haranadh took over as chairman of the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and pledged to become it the country’s most important port.
- He is a 1994 IRTS officer who earned his MSc and PhD from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Pusa, New Delhi.

- Ashok Kumar Gupta, the chairman of the Competition Commission, has been granted additional responsibilities as the chairwoman of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).
- R Sridharan, the NFRA’s chairman, is stepping down after three years on the job.
- With effect from October 1, Gupta, who is the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), has been assigned the additional job of NFRA chairwoman for three months.

14. India has withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games in England in 2022.
- India withdrew from the 2022 Commonwealth Games’ hockey competition in Birmingham, citing the risk of contracting COVID-19 and the United Kingdom’s (UK) discriminatory quarantine restrictions for Indian travellers.
- Even if fully vaccinated, the UK has refused to accept India’s COVID-19 vaccination certificates and has imposed a 10-day quarantine on visitors from India. Following the UK’s discriminatory quarantine regulations, India has placed reciprocal rules on all UK people travelling in the country.
