1. Ayushman Bharat’s health benefit package has been changed.
- The health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat will now provide healthcare coverage to transgender people and assist sex-change operations in a first-of-its-kind action.
- The increase is part of the amended Health Benefits Package, or HBP 2.2, from the National Health Authority (NHA). From November 2021, the HBP 2.2 is planned to be implemented.
2. The Textiles Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Germany’s GIZ to expand cooperation in sustainable cotton.
- The textiles ministry announced that it has reached an agreement with Germany’s GIZ to boost the value added from sustainable cotton production in India by focusing on sustainable cotton and boosting downstream processing.
- The project’s goal is to “raise the value added from sustainable cotton production in India by concentrating on sustainable cotton and bolstering downstream processing.”
3. In Uttarakhand, India and the United Kingdom have begun a two-week military drill.
- The Indian Army said that a two-week military exercise between India and the United Kingdom has begun in Chaubatia in Uttarakhand to improve bilateral defence cooperation.
- The sixth version of the ‘Ajeya Warrior’ exercise is part of a larger effort to improve interoperability and knowledge sharing. On October 20, the exercise will come to a close.
4. Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister, is in India on a three-day visit.
- Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, arrives in New Delhi for a three-day visit.
- Ms. Frederiksen meets with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a one-on-one basis. She will also pay a visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet with President Ram Nath Kovind.

5. The Indian passport has dropped six spots to 90th place in the world rankings.
- India’s ranking on the Henley Passport Index, which ranks the world’s best travel-friendly passports, has dropped six places from last year to 90.
- Data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) was used to compile the rankings.
- Indian passport holders can now travel to 58 countries without a visa. Tajikistan and Burkina Faso are among the countries that share this position with India.
6. By 2050, 5 billion people may face a water deficit, according to the United Nations.
- A United Nations (UN) agency report warns that by 2050, more than five billion people worldwide may face a water scarcity.
- Climate change, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), increases the global risk of water-related hazards such as floods and droughts, and the number of people affected by water scarcity is predicted to rise.

7. The National Bridge Authority of India (Nabard) has approved a budget of Rs 303 crore for the construction of 24 bridges in Odisha.
- The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) announced that it has approved a loan of Rs 303 crore for the construction of 24 bridges in Odisha.
- In 823 villages across 13 districts, the rural infrastructure projects would boost connectivity for 24.13 lakh people.
8. CredAvenue and Federal Bank collaborate on a securitization platform.
- Lender in the private sector Federal Bank said that it has partnered with CredAvenue to handle its securitisation book’s portfolio and has deployed CredPool, CredAvenue’s institutional debt platform.
- Through the technology platform, the bank will be able to digitally manage its asset-backed securities (ABS) and mortgage-backed securities (MBS) pool assets more efficiently.
9. Visa has launched the first card-on-file tokenization solution in India.
- In India, Visa has implemented card-on-file (CoF) tokenization services in accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) standards recently announced.
- The CoF tokenization solution will be offered across ecommerce companies such as Grofers, Bigbasket, and MakeMyTrip, and will be launched in cooperation with mobile-based payments firm Juspay.

10. India’s GDP is expected to grow at 8.3% in the current fiscal year, according to the World Bank.
- India’s economy is expected to grow by 8.3% in fiscal year 2021-22, according to the World Bank’s latest report, boosted by increased public investment and incentives to boost manufacturing. This is lower than the previous projection made earlier this year before the country was hit by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
11. India’s GDP growth projection for FY22 has been lowered to 8.7% by Fitch.
- Fitch Ratings cut India’s growth prediction for FY22 from 10% to 8.7%, blaming the severe second COVID-19 wave, which it claimed will ‘delay rather than derail’ the country’s economic recovery.
- As a result, it increased the growth target for FY23 to 10% from 8.5 percent previously.

12. R. Sheikh takes over as Director General of the Ordnance Directorate for the first time.
- ER Sheikh, a senior officer, was named the first director general of the Ordnance Directorate, which replaced the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

13. Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov, two journalists, have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
- Journalists Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia were given the Nobel Peace Prize for their fight for freedom of expression in their respective nations.
- The two were recognised for their efforts to protect freedom of expression, which is a prerequisite for democracy and sustainable peace, according to Berit Reiss-Andersen, chairwoman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
14. The USIBC will give the CEOs of Microsoft, IBM, and Accenture with Global Leadership Humanitarian Awards.
- The US-India Business Council (USIBC) has presented top executives from Accenture, IBM, and Microsoft with the 2021 Global Leadership Humanitarian Awards for forming the Global Task Force on Pandemic Response (GTF), which assisted India in fighting a brutal second wave of covid-19 infections earlier this year.
- During the India Ideas Summit, Julie Sweet, CEO and chair of Accenture, Arvind Krishna, chairman and CEO of IBM, and Brad Smith, president and vice-chair of Microsoft, will receive the prestigious honour.
15. KVG Bank is the recipient of two PFRDA awards.
- The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has awarded Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), which is sponsored by Canara Bank, two national awards (‘APY Big Believers’ and ‘Leadership Capital’) for considerable enrolment under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) (PFRDA).
- The bank has enrolled (cumulatively) 2,30,432 accounts in the APY programme so far. The bank enrolled 68,961 accounts between 2020 and 2021, compared to a target of 38,160.

16. Anshu Malik is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the World Championships.
- Anshu Malik, an Indian wrestler, made history in the 2021 World Wrestling Championships by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals and also the first Indian woman to win a silver medal.
- After losing to 2016 Olympic champion Helen Lousie Maroulis of the United States in the 57kg freestyle bout, the 19-year-old Anshu had to settle for a silver medal.
