1. India will host the G-20 summit in 2023, and Piyush Goyal will serve as the Sherpa.
- From December 1, 2022, India will hold the G20 presidency, and the G20 leaders’ summit will be held for the first time in 2023.
- Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, has been named India’s G20 Sherpa for 2023. (18th edition). A sherpa is a diplomat who helps with preparations for a summit meeting.
2. The Cabinet has approved a PLI plan for the textiles sector worth Rs 10,683 crore.
- The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the textiles sector has been approved by the Union Cabinet, with a budgeted commitment of Rs 10,683 crores for the next five years.
- The programme will aid in the growth of domestic industry and exports.
3. Chandigarh now has India’s tallest air purifier tower.
- On September 8, 2021, India’s tallest air purifying tower was unveiled in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
- Pious Air Pvt Limited constructed the tower near Transport Chowk, Sector 26, at the request of the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC).
4. The Chandigarh Railway Station has been awarded a 5-star ‘Eat Right Station’ rating.
- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has given the Indian Railways’ Chandigarh Railway Station the 5-star “Eat Right Station” designation (FSSAI).
- Chandigarh Railway Station is India’s fifth station to receive this honour. Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Mumbai), Mumbai Central Railway Station (Mumbai), and Vadodara Railway Station are among the other railway stations to receive this certification.
5. Governor of Uttarakhand, Baby Rani Maurya, has resigned.
- Governor of Uttarakhand Baby Rani Maurya announced her resignation on September 8, 2021, over two years before her term ends, citing personal reasons.
- In August 2018, Baby Rani Maurya, 64, was appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, succeeding Krishan Kant Paul.

6. India’s GDP is expected to grow at 9.50 percent in FY22 and 7.00 percent in FY23, according to S&P Global Ratings.
- S&P Global Ratings has changed India’s growth prediction, now forecasting 9.5 percent growth in fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22) and 7.0 percent growth in fiscal year 2022-23. (FY23)
- S&P has kept India’s sovereign rating at BBB-, the lowest investment grade, with a stable outlook.
7. HDFC Bank collaborates with NSIC to help SMEs get finance.
- The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and HDFC Bank have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide lending support to the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.
- The HDFC bank’s branches will support MSME projects in their respective locations, as well as other significant industrial sectors across the country.
8. For merchant customers, Karnataka Bank has launched the ‘WisePOSGo’ POS device.
- Karnataka Bank has introduced the ‘WisePOSGo,’ an all-in-one Point-of-Sale (POS) swiping machine for its merchant customers to process business payments.
- WisePOSGo is a small, light, and easy-to-use device that was created with the bank’s MSME customers’ special cost-conscious needs in mind.

9. Piyush Goyal has been named India’s G20 Sherpa.
- India’s Sherpa for the G20, which is a prominent forum that brings together the world’s leading countries, has been named Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
- The next G20 Summit will be held on the 30th and 31st of this month, under the Italian presidency. India will take over the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in 2023.
