TENSE

Simple past indicates a completed action in the past having no present impact.It is associated with past time adverbials like yesterday,long long ago,1947 etc.When a longer action is interrupted by a shorter action we use simple past for shorter action.When two actions immediately after one another we use simple past for both of them.we also use simple past with If clause in type2 conditionals

  • India got independence in 1947
  • while I was reading someone called me
  • when she called me I rejected her call
  • If he played well he would win the match
