National
1. Surat will be the first station in India to receive the country’s first bullet train.
- Surat, Gujarat, is slated to be the first stop on India’s future bullet train project. Surat’s forthcoming station will be the first to open between Ahmedabad and Mumbai on India’s first futuristic High-Speed Rail project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
- Surat, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Bilimora, Bharuch, Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, and Vapi stations would be part of the MAHSR corridor.
2. The 50th Anniversary Celebrations of ICRISAT, Hyderabad, were kicked off by Prime Minister Modi.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kicked off the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT50th )’s Anniversary festivities in Patancheru, Hyderabad.
- PM also dedicated two ICRISAT research facilities, the Climate Change Research Facility on Plant Protection and the Rapid Generation Advancement Facility, at the event.
3. Suzuki Innovation Centre will be established on the campus of IIT Hyderabad. IIT-H and Suzuki Motor Corporation have signed a three-year contract to establish Suzuki Innovation Centre (SIC) with the goal of “creating innovations for India and Japan” by providing a platform for knowledge exchange between the two organisations.
- The SIC will serve as a forum for open innovation among industries, universities, and startups, as well as supporting skill development and human resource exchange between India and Japan.
4. In India’s Press Freedom Report for 2021, J&K ranked first in terms of attacks on journalists.
- The Rights and Risks Analysis Group just released the India Press Freedom Report, 2021.
- According to the report, 13 media institutions and newspapers were targeted in the country, with 108 journalists attacked and six murdered.
International News
5. India leads the Salesforce Global Digital Skills Index 2022 in Digital Skills Readiness.
- Salesforce, a leader in customer relationship management (CRM), recently released the 2022 Worldwide Digital Skills Index, which underscores the global digital skills shortage and the need for action.
- India received a score of 63 out of 100, placing it first among the 19 countries in terms of digital skills readiness. The global preparedness score was 33 out of 100 on average.

6. In 2021, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) lent India a total of USD 4.6 billion, a new high.
- According to the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) official data, India received a record USD 4.6 billion in sovereign lending in 2021.
- This includes USD 1.8 billion for the pandemic response to coronavirus illness (COVID-19). The ADB’s regular funding programme for India focuses on transportation, urban development, finance, agriculture, and skill development.
7. ICICI Bank increased its holding in IICC in GIFT IFSC City to 9.9%.
- ICICI Bank Limited has increased its share in India International Clearing Corporation (IICC) to 9.90 percent by purchasing an additional stake for Rs 4.43 crore at the International Financial Services Center (IFSC) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
- On February 2, 2022, ICICI Bank received 44,262,356 equity shares at a price of Rs 1 per share for a cash consideration of Rs 44.3 million (Rs 4.43 crore).
8. Airtel Payments Bank and ICICI Lombard have teamed up to offer cyber insurance.
- Customers may now get Cyber Insurance through Airtel Payments Bank, which has collaborated with ICICI Lombard General Insurance.
- Customers can get financial protection from ICICI Lombard’s cyber insurance solution against potential financial fraud including banking, credit or debit cards, identity theft, phishing or email spoofing, and more.
9. The Axis Crisil SDL 2027 Debt Index Fund was introduced by Axis Mutual Fund.
- Axis Crisil SDL 2027 Debt Index Fund has been launched by Axis Mutual Fund. It’s a target maturity scheme having a maturity date of May 31, 2027 as the benchmark.
- The new scheme will track the Crisil IBX SDL Index – May 2027, and the portfolio is planned to invest primarily in a portfolio of state development loans (SDLs) with maturities ranging from December 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027. Crisil Indices Ltd will be in charge of the index.

10. Santishree Pandit is the first woman to be named Vice-Chancellor of JNU.
- Jawaharlal Nehru University has appointed Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as Vice-Chancellor.
- Savitribai Phule University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) is her present position. Ms. Pandit will be the university’s first female Vice-Chancellor.
11. Urjit Patel, a non-executive and independent director of Britannia, has resigned.
- Urjit Patel, the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has resigned as a non-executive and independent director of Britannia Industries Limited, citing a full-time job assignment beginning next month.
- He was a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Patel was recently appointed vice president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s South Asia investment operations (AIIB). His appointment will begin on February 1st.

- In Jaipur, Rajasthan, the world’s third-largest cricket stadium will be erected.
