National
1. Sanjeevani Pariyojana (or “life project”) was initiated by the Haryana government with the help of Deloitte.
- This is a controlled, virtual home care program to help people with mild to moderate Covid-19 symptoms get health care quickly.
- The Government of Haryana’s approach provides individuals with support and services to manage their treatment at home, including virtual triage and access to COVID-19 field hospitals and inpatient facilities when deemed necessary by state-trained medical personnel.
- The Haryana-Deloitte partnership expands on the state’s current telemedicine and virtual medical care facilities for at-home treatment.
2. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister announced the Vatsalya Yojana for children who have been orphaned as a result of Corona.
- Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat of Uttarakhand has declared the Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana for orphaned children whose parents have died as a result of Covid-19. The State Government will make provisions for their upkeep, schooling, and preparation for jobs up to the age of 21 under the scheme.
- According to the Chief Minister, orphaned children in the state would be granted a monthly maintenance allowance of 3000 rupees. The state government would enact laws protecting these orphans’ paternal land, prohibiting anyone from selling it before they reach adulthood.
3. The Maharashtra government has launched a project called “Mission Oxygen Self-Reliance.”
- To meet the state’s oxygen needs, the Maharashtra government has launched the “Mission Oxygen Self-Reliance” scheme. Under this program, special incentives would be offered to companies that produce oxygen.
- The state’s current capacity for producing oxygen is 1300 MT per day. Units established in the Vidarbha, Marathwada, Dhule, Nandurbar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg regions will be eligible for incentives of up to 150 percent of their eligible fixed capital investments, while units established in the rest of Maharashtra will be eligible for general incentives of up to 100 percent.
4. NITI Aayog will collaborate with TRIFED to introduce the Van Dhan Yojana in aspirational districts.
- TRIFED will now work with NITI Aayog to enforce the Van Dhan Yojana in districts that NITI Aayog has designated as aspirational. It has been agreed that a dedicated TRIFED team, in collaboration with the NITI Aayog, will develop a follow-up plan for the Van Dhan Yojana’s implementation in each of the 39 Tribal Aspirational Districts.
- Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura are among the districts that have been listed. These aspirational districts, where tribal people make up more than half of the population, will receive special attention.
5. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government will provide each transgender person with Rs 1500 in assistance.
- In light of the Covid pandemic, the government has agreed to provide Rs 1500 to each transgender person as immediate assistance to meet their basic needs.
- After providing basic information such as an Aadhar number and a bank account number, any transgender individual or Community-based Organization on their behalf can apply for financial assistance.
- They must complete a form that can be found on the National Institute of Social Defense’s website. During last year’s lockdown, the Centre offered similar financial aid and ration packs to transgender people.
International
6. The 74th World Health Assembly is being chaired by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.
- Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chairman of the WHO Executive Board, presided over the 74th World Health Assembly via videoconference. Dr Tedros, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, was also present at the ceremony. The executive board has requested further efforts to ensure equal and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX Facility, according to Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
- The 74th World Health Assembly should approve a study on mental health preparedness and response to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the board. It was also proposed that WHO endorse an updated comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan for 2013 to 2030, and that WHO collaborates with the World Organization for Animal Health and the Food and Agriculture Organization to identify the source of the zoonotic virus.
7. The United Kingdom has announced a proposal for a ‘Global Pandemic Radar.’
- To recognize Covid-19 variants and emerging diseases, the United Kingdom will develop an advanced international pathogen surveillance network. This Global Pandemic Radar would ensure the early identification of new strains and emerging pathogens, allowing for the rapid development of vaccines and treatments to combat them.
- Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, revealed the preparations ahead of the Global Health Summit, which will be hosted by Italy and the European Union (EU). By the end of 2021, the radar is planned to be fully operational with a network of surveillance hubs, with the aim of dramatically enhancing global health security in the coming year.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) will lead an implementation committee, with funding from the Wellcome Trust, to launch a new international collaboration to detect, track, and exchange data on new coronavirus variants and control vaccine resistance in populations.
8. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has proposed a $50 billion global vaccination program.
- The International Monetary Fund has introduced a $50 billion global vaccination program to reach at least 40% of the world’s population by the end of 2021 and 60% by the first half of 2022. Additional upfront grants to Covax, the donation of excess doses, and free cross-border flows of raw materials and finished vaccines are all needed to meet the vaccination goal.
In her address to the G20 Health Summit, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said that the world would exit this unprecedented health and economic crisis with solid and concerted intervention now and with little in terms of financing compared to the outsized benefits.
9. India and Israel have agreed to a three-year agricultural cooperation program.
- India and Israel have agreed to a three-year agricultural cooperation program. The “INDO-ISRAEL Agricultural Project Centres of Excellence” and “INDO-ISRAEL Villages of Excellence” are being implemented by India and Israel.
- This new work program will improve bilateral ties and mutual cooperation in the field of agriculture between the two countries for the benefit of farmers.
10. From Antarctica, the world’s biggest iceberg breaks down.
- The world’s largest iceberg has broken off the coast of Antarctica, according to satellite images from the European Space Agency (ESA). The iceberg, known as A-67, covered 4320 square kilometers, about half the size of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
- The iceberg, which is finger-shaped, broke off from the Ronne Ice Shelf, a vast ice shelf covering over 400,000 square kilometers. Copernicus Sentinel-1 was responsible for the images. The Copernicus Sentinel spacecraft is the first ESA Earth Observation spacecraft to introduce command link communications protection.

11. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development allows FCRA accounts to open accounts with SBI New Delhi.
- Up until June 30, 2021, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allowed existing Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) account holders, including NGOs and associations, to open a “FCRA Account” at the State Bank of India’s New Delhi Main Branch (NDMB).
- They will no longer be able to accept foreign contributions in any account other than the NDMB’s “FCRA Account” after that date.

12. The country’s foreign exchange reserves have surpassed $590 billion.
- The country’s foreign exchange reserves surpassed USD 590 billion in the week ending March 14th. It is worth 43,24,574 crores in rupees.
- According to Reserve Bank of India numbers, it increased by USD 563 million last week. The country’s foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 102 billion in the last year. The country has USD 546.87 billion in foreign currency assets, USD 36654 million in gold, USD 1506 million in SDRs, and USD 5,000 million in IMF reserves.

It was previously scheduled to go into effect on June 1st of this year. To ensure proper coordination and address implementation issues, a committee was organized.

- Anvee Bhutani, Co-Chair of the Oxford SU’s Campaign for Racial Awareness and Equality (CRAE) and President of the Oxford India Society, ran in the by-election for the 2021-22 academic years, which saw a record turnout.
15. Zhang Yiming, the founder of TikTok Parent, will step down as CEO.
- According to the company, the founder of Chinese internet powerhouse ByteDance, which is behind video-streaming apps TikTok and Douyin, will resign at the end of the year and be replaced by co-founder Liang Rubo.
- Zhang Yiming, the 38-year-old founder of ByteDance, is the latest high-profile Chinese internet billionaire to resign, amid a Beijing crackdown that includes intimidation and fines aimed at limiting the reach of big technology firms and their often charismatic leaders.

16. Casper Ruud wins the Men’s Singles event at the Geneva Open tennis tournament.
- World No. 21 is competing in the Geneva Open tennis tournament. Casper Ruud of Norway won his second ATP Tour title in the final, defeating Denis Shapovalov of Canada, who was ranked 15th, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
Ruud led the ATP Tour with 32 clay-court victories in 2020-21, ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas (26) of Greece and Cristian Garin of Chile (25).
17. Stefanos Tsitsipas defeats Cameron Norrie to win the Lyon Open for the second time in 2021.
- Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Lyon Open tennis tournament in dominant fashion, setting himself up for the French Open with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cameron Norrie.
- Tsitsipas, who lost just one set in the tournament, won in 69 minutes to add a second title to his claycourt season after winning the Monte Carlo Masters last month.
18. Phil Mickelson wins the PGA Championship, making him the oldest major winner ever.
- Phil Mickelson, the oldest major winner in history, claimed the PGA Championship by two shots over Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen.
- Mickelson, who had a one-shot lead into the day, sealed the deal with a one-over-par 73 at the Ocean Course, putting him at six-under for the week.
- Mickelson’s victory was his sixth major championship victory overall and his first since the 2013 British Open.
19. Max Verstappen wins the Monaco Grand Prix 2021
- Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time, passing Lewis Hamilton for the Formula One championship lead.
- Carlos Sainz Jr. of Ferrari came in second, while L. Norris of McLaren finished a poor seventh.

20. NASA plans to send the first mobile robot to the moon to look for water.
- In 2023, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States plans to look for water and other tools on the moon. The US agency plans to send its first mobile robot to the Moon in late 2023 as part of its Artemis initiative, in search of ice and other resources on and below the lunar surface.
- The VIPER (Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) will collect data that will aid NASA in mapping resources at the lunar South Pole that could one day be harvested for long-term human exploration.

21. Shaji N.M. of Kerala is the winner of the India Biodiversity Award 2021.
- Shaji N.M., also known as Kerala’s “Tuber Man,” has been honored with the India Biodiversity Award 2021 in the category of “Conservation of Domesticated Animals.” The award, which comes with a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh and a citation, was announced during the 2021 International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).
- Shaji has won seven state awards for his efforts in conserving about 200 tuber crops on his plantation, including greater yam, lesser yam, elephant foot yam, arrowroot, colocasia, sweet potato, cassava, and Chinese potato.
- He was also awarded the Plant Genome Savior Reward 2015, which was established by the PPV&FR Authority in New Delmarva. In addition, he was awarded the Plant Genome Savior Reward 2015 by the PPV&FR Authority in New Delhi.

22. Yuan Longping, China’s “Father of Hybrid Rice,” has died.
- Yuan Longping, a Chinese scientist best known for creating a hybrid rice strain that greatly increased the country’s grain yield, died at the age of 91.
- Yuan was successful in developing a high-yield hybrid rice strain in 1973, which was later mass-produced in China and other countries to significantly increase production.

23 . World Thyroid Day : 25th May
- Every year on May 25, the world commemorates World Thyroid Day. The WTD’s key goal is to raise awareness about the importance of thyroid health, as well as the prevention and treatment of thyroid diseases.
